I have to say that I find Alienware PCs very overpriced. For a gaming laptop I'd far rather go with the Dell XPS.
Of course a gaming laptop is a pretty specialised piece of kit and you pay at least £1k more to get the same specs as a gaming desktop.
Even if someone travels a lot and wants to play games on the move my preference would be to get a decent gaming desktop, a laptop for travelling and a PSP/DS for gaming on the move. You'd easily get all of those for £1500.
I have a gaming laptop which cost a chuffing fortune. I got it from RockDirect. Similar to Alienware, better prices and a 3 year collect and return warranty.
I didn't realise we were talking about laptops though?John

We weren't but someone mentioned gaming laptops and I thought it was worth mentioning how expensive they are. Don't get me wrong, you can get good value out there - and Rock are a good name although I think they might have gone bust, sadly - but unless you really need portable gaming then you'll get better value for money from a dedicated desktop games PC and a separate laptop.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

Rock nearly went bust due to one of the workers embezzling over £200k, He is in prison and Rock have been bought out by 'Stonegroup'.

You are better off with a desktop as you do get more for your cash and they can be upgraded, unlike laptops. I love my lil baby though;)John

Of course it's financially successful; you have to pay every month to play it! There are many console games that have sold more copies than WoW has.
I don't really see how a game being financially successful benefits you (unless you're getting a cut of the profits), but it's your money I guess!
As long as PC games like WoW and others are making vast sums of money then the developers will continue to make PC games. That was my point.
Personally I hope pc gaming continues for a long long time to come, standalone gaming is for consoles but gaming communities are online with the PC.
On a side note, thanks for Alienware link but I'm not really looking for a laptop, at least not for gaming.0 -
on the pc vs console discussion:
I found this video on TomsHardware.com:

you should watch if you're at all interested in pc gaming .0 -

I agree mate. I don't play consoles anymore, but have played my PC religiously for years now! Far more fun....
I think you misunderstand the previous post though...Alienware do laptops as well as desk tops.....John

the thing with raptors is
there are some drives out there that say they are faster.
there are bigger drives out there.
and they are cheaper.
there are none that have the same or better seek time has a raptor which makes the raptor a very fast drive.
the tranfer rate of the top drives are about the same when looking at benck marks put in the real world the raptor win hands down every time and it's the only drive that just about utalizes sata (do not say sansung are sata 2 of 3gbs ,when in real turms they do not utilize even sata 1 right yet)
and how many poeple have more than 150gb on the main drive in the first place and it come with a 5 year warranty toothere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -
Bang per buck, £100 max for 1Tb Samsung F1 vs £100+ for 150Gb Raptor, it's not rocket science. If you can tell the difference, I'll give you a banana!
Read some reviews on the F1. It's comparable and even faster than the raptor in some cases.0
