slipping towards bankruptcy,

after advice we are now re-directing our thoughts towards a better outcome with the bank and credit card companies. We have sent a letter to the 4 companies explaining how much we owe, and to whom. Also explaining our present difficult financial circumstances. (This included a detailed income and expenditure list, a suggested proposal to freeze the interest & the possibility of one of the banks consolidating the debt.)
MBNA - who we owe 4,000 pounds to have replied, requesting us to return our cards and any cheques and to phone them.
We are concerned whether we should actually phone them. Writing to them is preferable especially after reading this forum.
We are also in the process making a detailed inspection of all charges, interest and ppi made on the card as we believe this may provide us with some leverage according to advice.
* For those who considered this debt to be too small for bankruptcy - it is only through frustration with not being able to make a deal and the fact that we are living on one income, that we are considering this . We have a baby daughter which requires one of us to be at home for the time being.
Since this debt has become difficult for us to maintain we have reduced our expenditure to a bare minimum which includes - no mobile phone - no car (buses & trains are cheap in France thank goodness) - no t.v. and certainly no meals out etc. However, health cover, and French taxes are not too far around the corner and we need to be prepared for that.
Thanks for those who have offered advice.0
