Daxian T32

Does anyone have experience with this iClone? I've seen it for £150 which seems reasonable for a Windows Mobile device, unlocked, with WiFi and GPS in the pipeline - but I can find precious little product review online beyond rubbish YouTube demo videos.

Planning on using this for work (when I get some), and for use on holiday - Excel spreadsheets like my currency converter and budgeting/receipt tools for example - will save having to pack/lug around a mobile phone and PDA...

I don't know anything about this particular phone, but a friend of mine has a 'clone' of the HTC Touch. Its a WM6 device with Wi-Fi and pretty much all the features you could shake a stick at. He has the manual for the HTC Touch and the clone seems to do everything the 'genuine article' does. In fact it looks like it could be a real 'Touch', but with the branding removed, the build quality is certainly good. It cost him around £115 delivered from a webshop in Hong Kong. I'm thinking of getting one myself (don't really need one, but its just a very desirable gadget!). If you PM me I can give you the URL.
  • Why is it that review sites such as gsmarena and mobileburn don't get a hit when searching Daxian?
...and then the window licker said to me...
  • They might be referring to it as a CECT phone, but from what I saw the battery is printed with the Daxian name. Seems to be a lot of confusion in the market about who is selling what!!
  • Sorry to bring up the old thread again... but I went ahead and got one, advertised as the CECT T32. Again there's some discrepancy about what model this actually is, but since the description and images appear to be the same across every site I've seen I'm going to take my chances.

I got this using Bidnip and the International Sellers option on eBay which meant I was able to save around £30 because I had the option to auction rather than using Buy It Now, and the $-£ rate was comparable.

Once it arrives I'll post up to let anyone who may be interested know whether it's worth the money. For me having an iPhone equivalent sans contract, GPS support and possibly even multi-touch (seen a video but it might have been fake), will outweigh the plastic-rather-than-glass screen and occasional need for a stylus. Since these things are infinitely upgradeable with new software hacks I think it's going to be a viable option!

Of course now I've been overheard talking about it, the other half wants one...

watch out for the model number/name on these, they relate to different releases, some not too good. The one you want has windows 6.0 pro and wifi (soon to be GPS as well). The earlier version without wifi is slower and more problematic. The T32 is generally the latest but I hear some are passing of the older Daxian 999 as a newer version. It is confusing but I think if you make absolutely sure it has wifi it will be the latest version.
  • Yeah I'm relying on the eBay description being accurate.... but you hear so many bad things about these HK sellers! If it's not right when it turns up I'm just going to send it straight back...
  • Okay, it arrived today. As I gather is the norm for these things, it was sent without packaging and with a nominal gift value on the customs label - so no VAT :D

It's a good phone, not as smooth or dynamic looking as the iPhone but certainly very functional as a PDA (Windows Mobile 6 Pro installed with Office). For some reason it wouldn't read my text messages from the SIM but it would read contacts - though I had to manually copy them from SIM to phone and add the missing numbers (everything comes over as a mobile number, but that might just be my old phone).

The interface is very good, and additional apps can be added for more iPhone-like features (there's a 1GB memory card in it already - can add up to 8GB, so plenty of room to transfer programs). I found the response times were good but the Touch-Flo interface was a little sluggish, though I don't plan to use it.

And it has that funny little reversed Apple logo on it to really **** off the purists :D

Edit: The extras. You also get a (faux?) leather case, USB cable with wall plug and car adapter, USB SD Card/TF Card adapter, screen protector, extra battery and USB headphones. I would estimate about £10/£15 worth of value there.

wow you got all those extras. Mine arrived with two batteries, earphones a wall charger and usb lead. I am really happy with it so far. I was using an Xda exec which I got second hand off ebay and it was a nightmare. It wouldn't connect to the Pc you had to hack it to get it to hook up to bluetooth gps. It would lose the wireless wep code...basically horrible for a phone that originally sold for over £600. So this £150 pound clone beats it hands down in that it does everything it should do without complaint and doesn't freeze. I suppose some people could have issues withn the picture quality but it's not bad at all . Just like an iphone but totally open ended for installing new progz and hacks. I'm v happy with it and the call quality is crystal clear.
  • I need a new battery for this phone. I have tried eBay and even the seller but with no luck.

Has anyone got a retailer? Thanks in advance.
