Are you using the search facility at the top of the site ? or one specifically for the travel forum ?

Did a 4 night break to NYC in February with 4 friends, stayed at the Hilton NY, flew BA and had a Limo from the Airport to Hotel. All for around £380 per person :-)
Best things was, we had booked really cheap flights yet when we got to Check-In for the o/n flight back, we were told of a "Special Promotion" whereby we could upgrade to business class, and a flat bed etc, for only $250.. They didn't have to ask twice! (Special promotion was that the flight was full and they needed to upgrade some passengers to make room in economy, they just wanted some money for it)..

Nope!
I found it incredibly easy to get around in NY using the subway ... took a trip into London and the Underground was a nightmare by comparison!
I used to live in London - admittedly 20 odd years ago - and I was quite, quite confused by all that "Zone" lark!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I hope I can help, please feel free to ask if you need any further information.
I have been to NY once in the summer and once in the winter.
I've only flown into Newark, there is a bus into the main bus station which is a lot cheaper than a taxi, as with anywhere you visit, watch your luggage.
Unlike others, I did not like the subway, as not all trains arrive at the platform they post, I spent an hour and a half trying to get back to my hotel, soaking wet, one day, since then, I've always said that I will never criticise the Tube in future!
NY, I found is totally different in feel to say, London, or most other European cities, no harm in that, of course.
When you visit the Empire State Building, it is well worth arriving as early as possible in the morning, but check the weather forecast first to ensure the visibility will be good. If you have any, take your own binoculars, too!
It also stays open late, for superb views across the city at night.
Taxis are the best and cheapest way to get around, especially if there are a few of you.
We enjoyed window shopping on 5th Avenue, spent $250,000, thank goodness I forgot to take my credit card!
We found drinks in bars very expensive, yet in a local supermarket, a large bottle of local beer was less than at home. Most of these stores have takeaway facilities and proved an excellent alternative to eating out all of the time.
The best value is a NY breakfast, I still long for their hash browns, so much better than the triangular rubbish we get here! One of these should keep you going well into the afternoon.
If you are near the Grand Central Station, do call and look at the architecture and ceiling.
For shopping, we found Bloomingdales very expensive, Maceys was great with some excellent bargains 'Old Navy' also gave good value for clothes.
I am not into museums but the Met is very good, and their gift shop has a very wide selection of good quality products.
I hope you have a wonderful time, good luck!

Where have all the posts re New York gone? I know I've posted in the past but can't find anything.
I'll see what info I have and post later
HQ - there's some airport info on here
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=45422
We used this pass when we went as we were only there a short while and it covered everything that we wanted
http://citypass.com/city/ny.html
but there's also the New York Pass which covers more attractions.

The Sony Wonder Tech Lab was great fun and completely free but you might have to book during busy periods. It's one of the attractions on here...........

There are bus tours here http://www.nyctourist.com/sightsee_bus.htm
http://www.coachusa.com/newyorksightseeing/
http://www.inetours.com/New_York/Tours/DD_Bus_Tour.html
We bought 'all loops' tickets and used them to hop on & off when going to various attractions. The downside was listening to the same spiel over and over and over..............................
And don't forget to take your passport to Customer Services in Macy's and (I think) Bloomingdales for 11% discount.0 -
