Applying for contract with o2 whilst unemployed?

Hi everyone,
I'm returning to the UK in a couple of months after living abroad for a few years, and need to pick up a mobile on a contract straight away! (Not pre-paid) When I get to the UK I'll be unemployed for a few weeks whilst looking for a new job. How would this affect my chances of being approved if I select "unemployed" during the sign-up process... doesn't look good does it? (I'm wanting to get an iPhone on an o2 18-month contract, I know the iPhone's currently not available but the new one will be out by the time I'm back.)

Although I still have plenty of money to keep me going and pay the o2 bill until I have a job, will I be declined a contract because I'll be stating I'm unemployed?

Many thanks! :)

It is not possible for you to get any contract through online (which should be the cheapest deal) without any credit reference from the past, the only best bet is going to the P4U or CPW retails so they could help you to sign it, since you have no credit rating, they could ask you for some deposit where you can get it back after 6 months.

I think '3' network is the easiest network ever that could give you a contract, i was be able to get them as my first contract without deposit in 2004, but since 2005-2006, they start asking for deposit for those customer who got no credit rating or didn't applied to contract in the past.

No, no one really care if you are employed or unemployed, all they care is credit rating. Make sure you bring your identifications too (eg. passport and bank statement).

After you've built credit rating with '3' for about half year or a year, you will be able to start to get your second contract or switch to other network by applying cheapest deal online (eg. e2save etc). Make sure don't miss any payment :D
