What's the best phone for me?

Hi everyone, i was wondering if you could recommend some phones for me as I really don't know much about the phone market. I;ll be negotiating with CPW 02 retentions as i'm now out of contract, and I don't want to pay any extra for the phone. I'm basically after:

1) Something that's easy to use and hold. I don't really want a slide or flip phone. Key pad must big enough for my big manly thumbs :D

2) Good battery life

3) I don't care about cameras, ring tones, bling etc.

From past experience, I'd be happy with a Nokia or Sony. Is the Nokia 6500 classic any good?

Thanks

Nokia 6500 classic should fit the bill. It is very slim, so go to a phone shop and see how it feels in your hand as the keypad is quite flat and thin. Should be free on upgrade regardless of what contract you're on.

Another option is the Nokia 6300 which should also be free. This has raised keys, which might be easier to use.

I have just got the Samsung f480 Tocco ...... it's a touch screen with really big areas to type the texts.

I love it....I must admit I am not usually fussy which phone is which...but I love this one.
    Good Luck All

The Nokia 6300 has quite poor battery life though although it is comfortable to use for texting. I don't know what the 6500 battery life is like, but given that it is a slim phone (and hence small battery) I would double check by reading a few reviews on the internet.

Good battery life is subjective, but if the Nokia's don't offer enough (at ~3.5 hr talk time) consider Sony Ericsson's who generally have reputations for very good battery life.

Turning off the 3G mode also helps extend battery life.

really, mine regularly gets 4-5 days between charges and its a year old, its a damn good phone but if all the op needs is a basic phone any low end nokia will do.

given the 6300 is only 60 odd quid payg i would be looking for a deal or free gift if i was signing up to a contract

logit: For what your looking for I'd definitely recommend a slightly older nokia, such as the 6500 as you suggest or the 6300 but I'd go into a shop to see which one you prefer to use.

carly: As far as I can see, £69.99 is the cheapest for a 6300 on payg and that's available from play.com or CPW.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I had a play with my mates Nokia 6300, and it seems to offer all that I need. The only problem may be the stupid flashing blue lights when you have a text or missed call.

I love those flashing blue lights! You can see at a glance if you've missed anything.
