yep, it was pretty interesting....the only things i wouldn't have eaten was the mouldy bread, and the out of date chicken and mince.....that bloke must have a strong stomach :rotfl:

when i saw the guy raiding the bins out the back of Iceland, i'm sure i heard somewhere that that was illegal? mind you, the things he found....good food thrown away just cos the tins/boxes were dented....the mind boggles at how wasteful some companies/people really are

It was shocking that 10 children die from malnutrition every minute - the level of waste is immoral -they spoke to one woman on the programme who threw away £50 of food a week (nearly half of what she bought IIRC)
Don't put it down, put it away - thanks Valli

  • I watched it as well, you wouldn't get me eating the chicken. I had this happen to me last night, went to use chicken that WAS in date, didn't go off till tomorrow, but was clearly off 2 days before it should of been, it smelt absolutely digusting.

Red meat to me is more safe, i find it usually doesn't smell when its like a 1 day past it use by date.

I find a lot of people at work throw out eggs, even though they're a 'best before' product. As my OH said (he used to work for a egg company), you actually have no idea when the egg was laid and the best before date is stamped on when the eggs come through the packaging process.

I tend to eat bread if it has tiny amounts of mold on it, usually appearing on the crusts as sometimes the bread is still soft. I just peel the crust away etc and the bread is still yummy, definately wouldn't consume bread with the amount of mold that was on the slice he ate.

It does annoy me though that supermarkets throw out soooo much food. A person i work with, gets carrots free for her horses from Asda, as if they're not cut right, they refuse to accept them when they're delivered, so her husband simply brings them home (he delivers food products).

What a complete waste, its a carrot for god sake that is going to be cut up anyway by the consumer........

It might be repeated/replayed on ITV webite. They do have something similar to the bbc i player on their site.

I watched the programme and personally i would go by the use by date on product and also use my senses as well.
I have mentioned previously that supermarkets could give some of the food to shelthers etc.

I watched the prog. No real revelations in it.

I never tend to go by best before/use by dates. If it looks ok and smells ok, I'll eat it. After all, the food doesn't know what date it is supposed to go off.

I would have cooked the greying mince as long as it didn't smell bad, but I think I would have given the chicken a miss.

I wouldnt have eaten the ready meals either, cos they taste crap when they are in date anyway!!!
