Cancelling a contract needs one month's notice period

My contract is finishing with Vodafone in 2 weeks and I called them to cancel my contract. Apparently they need 1 month's notice in writing.

Is there any way I can avoid that or do I have to bite the bullet and pay them additional rent for about 3 weeks.

If you are staying with them then I'd ask them to waive the extra couple of weeks on your old contract and start the new one now.

However if you are going to leave them have you got your PAC number - you'll need this to transfer over. If you haven't already asked for it they may offer you a good deal to stay with them...................:). I don't think it's worth doing anything about it for just two weeks. It takes a little while to transfer your number anyway.

Don't know if this helps or not! :)
  • If you are out of contract then you do not need to give notice, and if you get and use a PAC code you are automatically cancelled when you use it, no notice needed!

If you are out of contract you still have to give 30 days notice, unless you get your pac code and transfer the number.

Thats still valid. I called vodafone and the lady told me that I will still need to give 30 days notice before they change my contract to Pay As You Go.

Can you give more than 30 days notice?
Contacted T- mobile to confirm termination of contract at the end of 12 months they replied I have to phoned them 30 days before the end of the contract not before is this standard procedure?does not seem right to me if I phone up a day late I end up paying a extra month.

I think, though I am not sure, that if the 30 days notice goes into the next month, they just charge you for the days that the contact ran in that month, not the entire month

another vote for the pac code option - phone them up and get a pac code - most can provide it there and then (or should be able to - they may choose to 'send' it to you...) as you are cancelling you would need this anyway (assuming you're keeping the number) and once you've used the code it cancels the existing contract in order to port you across to the other network.

  • fact. wether your in contract or not, you have to give the network 30 days notice.

what if i get a pac?
it means you can aviod writing in to the network as this can be requested over the phone, however lets assume you get your pac code today (29/09/2005), its valid for 30 days from today and if you don't use it (give it to your new network), then it will not cancel your contract, you'll basically be back to square one giving them a months notice. AND PLEASE NOTE!, if you did get your pac today (29/09/2005) and lets say you pass this to your new network today, the number porting process will take about 7-10 days, lets assume this goes through on the 9th october, you will still have to pay the network for the remaining 20 days of your notice period without even being able to use your minutes.

it's complicated i know, but it's how the networks do it so play it smart, get your pac code and use it on the 19th day, allowing 10 days transfer (and 1 spare day for any problems). this is the most efficeint way of doing it.

    hope this helps
