Sorry that I have only just found this thread.
Now, here's another totally different suggestion. The Charities Aid Foundation used to publish a book about educational grants, and a book of grants for individuals in need. These seem to be online now, and you have to pay to subscribe - how stupid is that! Have a look at http://www.grantsforindividuals.org.uk/Default.aspx Obviously you don't want to waste money subscribing to this site, but someone in your locality may be able to look for you. If I were researching this, I would start by finding my local Council for Voluntary Services (CVS) by looking on http://webdb.navca.org.uk/home.aspx
Give your local CVS a ring and ask if there are any charities in your area working with young people. You can tell them why you are asking - you are a 16 (or 17 by now perhaps) yr old young person living independently, and you are desperately short of money so you wonder whether there are any extra grants available to help you stay in education. (You can say that you also know about the website above and want to find out if any charities in the area are subscribers, so that they could help you look for grants). Local charities may also know of local grant making trusts that might be prepared to help you!
I know your financial situation has improved a bit, but it would still be worth asking. What do you think?Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0
