Should I replace washing machine?

I have a 10+ year old washing maching (fairly basic model), which works fine and am wondering whether to replace it. My thinking is thus:
Our water bill is too high! Charges went up 20% this year, and our household income went down...
Our electricity bill is also too high :-(
From what I read online, moderm machines are around 50% more water/energy efficient than 10yo models. If this is true, I guess I would save around £70 a year. Thus investing £170 in a new machine should save us £40 over three years (beats putting the same amount in a savings account).
Am I missing something?
Also, is it worth spending money on a higher spin speed? I guess our washing is split about 60/40 between line and tumble dryer.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

But you are unlikely to find a new machine that won't need replacing/major repair within 3 years -- I've just had to replace a £350 Bosch machine after 2.5 years.
So, I would stick with your inefficient - but working - machine until it conks out. JMO.
FWIW our repair man reckons 1200 spin maximum is all you need. More and the machine will wear out sooner.0 -
I was advised also not to get too high a spin speed as they wear out quicker.0

I was thinking the same, we bought our washing machine second hand for £40 when we got our first house 7 years ago it was already 3 years old, but its running fine so changed my mind and will replace it when it conks out0
