Hi.
Having never been to Portugal before im a bit confussed by all the different areas of the Algarve.
I'll tell you what we like and then perhaps you can point us in the right direction of what area we might like (i can then do a bit of research on whats been recommended)
A small & friendly type accommodation
No big hotel/appt complex
Close to a nice sandy beach preferably backed by a nice hotel where you can use there pool/lawned area
Nice restaurants to see you through a 2 week stay
Within a 45 min transfer from the airport.
Flat walking area
No big touristy /nightclub area full of young kid's having a great time.
Thanks in advance

You will get that anywhere in the Algarve!
My parents and their friends stay in Albufeira each year. They borrow a friend's villa so I can't recommend specific accom. There are lively parts for younger people (I assume you mean young adults, not young kids?), but there are also lots of quieter bars and very nice restaurants. You are also very close to Villamoura, a more upmarket area, again with lots of very nice restaurants.Gone ... or have I?0 -

As suggested Vilamoura ticks most of the boxes.
It's about 30 minutes from the airport, loads of restaurants, miles of beach, Quarteira next to it has some fantastic restaurants the locals use.0 -
Did you book Portugal in the end Urbancookie?0

Carvoeiro is a good choice. Stayed there many times. Lots of great restaurants, lovely beaches & not too rowdy in the evenings. Mirachora praia hotel is ideally situated & looks nice although we always book a villa or apartment. Have a look at http://www.carvoeiro.com/0

Thanks for your reply's
Still working our way through some of the areas mentioned. Lagos sounds like it has most things that we like.
Question is do we go with the Algarve or stay with our old favorite fly-n-flop holiday Crete??????

Go to the Algarve! We are going there for the first time in July. We have booked a hotel in Vilamoura.0

I love both places but they offer totally different holidays. Lagos is lovely & Vilamoura is a good base if you hire a car. Vilamoura marina is my favourite place to "people watch". The ones that look like they haven't two halpenny's to rub together are the ones who usually disembark from the most lavish yacht.0

Olhus D'agua is a quite resort with a nice beach, or it was a few years ago.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Lagos is a beautiful place. I have a house in Praia da Luz about 5 mins. from Lagos but it is more than 45 mins. from the a/p. I would say about 1 to 1and half hours by car. In a bus about 2 hours. I can get there in 50mins. but I know the road and I drive quickly.urbancookie1 wrote: »Thanks for your reply's
