    Hi pet!:hello:

Welcome to the clan hun - thank you for posting.action-smiley-033.gif

Can I just ask if fellow suffers of depression experience people telling them to 'stop wallowing in self pity' and 'pull yourself together', or is it just me?[/pet]

I'm afraid hunnie, that this is a very common response to people with mental ill health issues. Have you come across this yourself, pet?
It is upsetting to get that response because it wouldn't be said normally to someone with a visible or physical ailment. I think that mental ill health is one issue that is still stigmatised by people who have had no experience of it. And that can be down to just plain ignorance - people simply don't know what it's like or what a huge variety of mental ill health conditions there are. There's a big difference betweeen depression and just feeling sad or low.
I'm always tempted to give the response, ''You know - I hadn't thought of that. Tell me how please?''rolleyes.gif
If only it was that simple!
If it wasn't a range of real illnesses, there'd be no such thing as a psychiatrist or any other mental health professional. No-one would choose to have mental ill health - and we tend to leave it until the very last moment before seeking medical help, which can't be good for us. redface.gif
Back to you hunnie, is there any particular area that you get this response in? Please feel free to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.wink.gifsLo_hug2.gif

    Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately this response comes from my brothers and sisters who have had very fortunate lives and therefore very few reasons to become depressed.

In fact as I am the youngest they have always ganged up on me and bullied me. It's bad enough when people are nasty to you, but when it's your own family it's even more painful and this has contributed to my depression over the years.

They seem to choose the times when I'm at my lowest to really put the boot in.

    Hi guys!:hello:
I hope we're all in fine fettle this sunny Sunday morning - you know that isn't going to last!biggrin.gif - and that we're all safe and sound.sLo_grouphug.gif
I've been playing detectives guys detective.gif, (inspired by the Lara Croft film last night and with not having a life!laughing-smiley-014.gif) and I think I can explain the demise of thread home 6!
I tried Russell Grant - no luck with astrology, so then I checked the smartie factory but all seemed in order there.blink.gifhmmm.gif
And then I had a 'Eureka!' moment...it wasn't anything to do with pms - it was mass-PMS!!!biglaugh.gif
All us she-males (and maybe even gilly-badgie!speechless-smiley-040.gif), must have finally synchronised our body-clocks and it hit us all at the same time!biggrin.gif

Based on previous history,(and all the old issues of the 'Jackie' magazine that I could find), I predict there's a possibility that it may occur again around pages 175 and page 353, so forewarned is forearmed.wink.gif Just kidding guys, anyone who has PMS really has my sympathy - not something anyone would want and I bet you 3 smarties that gilly-brock says the same!biggrin.gif
So that's another mystery cleared up - what next - bowl of double-top or the national economy?!shrug.gifmilk.gif
Hope everyone has the best day that they can.sLo_hug2.gif

    Hi pet!:hello:
    Thanks for posting back hunnie.;)
I can completely empathise with you. I've been on the other end of it from my family too with the only difference being I'm the eldest of the three of us.:o

My sister had a minor depression and imho, that made it worse because after about 4 months, she was back to normal and she can't get it into her head that it's different for each person. My brother's just patronising. I don't know which is worse, tbh - but they know when they've crossed the line with the Tiffster now!

Well angel, there's a thread here full of lovely peeps who will more than understand what you're going through and who will listen. You're always welcome hun.sLo_hug2.gif
