Just off to bed but been "listening in" all eve.
shaz - my GP told me that you cannot be sectioned simply because you are suicidal and if this does happen, so long as you are rational, you can appeal and be out the next day. They might put alot of pressure on you to be admitted voluntarily but tbh they realise that for alot of people, especially those with families, this does more harm than good. Also there are so few hospital beds these days that they are often reluctant to admit people who really don't want to go in. Also there are your sons to consider, and from what I know of you, you are the kind of mother who would put them first and they will try to help you cause them the minimum of disruption. Please don't worry. I know its easier said that done and no-one choses to feel the way you are feeling but you were brave enough to ring NHS Direct and there is support on its way to you now.
The crisis team who dealt with me a few months ago were brilliant at first - once I started to pick up after a couple of weeks I got visits from support workers every 2 or 3 days, I didn't think the support workers were much cop, but the cpns who came out in the early days were pretty good. After a week or 2 you'll probably find yourself getting fed up with all the phone calls, visits, appointments etc and you'll start wanting to get better so that your life can return to some semblance of normality. That's when you will know that you're on the road to recovery. Honest, the worst is over for you now.
Well done for reaching out for help. I know how hard that is. And we are all here to help you get through this.
