Vacuum for Pet hair

I have two long haired dogs, and a short haired cat. They all shed alot of hair. I've just moved in to a new flat (new to me) and the pet hair really seems to stick to the carpet.

I have a Dyson vac (the green one) It just doesn't seem to pick up the hair very well, even though it works on other things

So I'm thinking about getting a new vacuum cleaner, but don't want to get one and find its no better than the Dyson, so I'm looking for advice on which vacuum cleaner works well at picking up pet hair from carpets

It is moneysaving to have a piece of equipment which actually does the job.

We actually have two mieles, and upstairs and a downstairs one, and one is about 15 years old. It has needed replacement bits from rough treatment, but still works brilliantly. Meanwhile, (the mieles are my parents) DH and I have had sveral cheaper vacuums which die very quickly and don't do a good job on pet hair, making it take three or four times as long to vacuum!

Lots of votes for the Meile. Thanks everyone. I've checked out the reviews and have a few questions, if any of you happy Meile users could shed some light, I'd be very grateful. People seem to really like it, but the downsides seem to be (aside from the initial expense)

    1. the bags are exprensive -can I reuse the same bag several times if I'm careful, I did this before I got the Dyson, which I loved till I moved to my new flat.
    2. Its hard to store, I guess because of the shape. I have zero storage space since a previous owner made an internal kitchen taking away the big internal walk in hallway cupboard, so right now I keep my vacuum out in the hallway, so I'm not really bothered
    3. Some of its is quite flimsy, anyone have problems with this?

    thanks again

Its not flimsy. My mother drives me mad by dragging it along by the hose: its vey resilient, lol.

We use the fabric bags, think they are anti allergen ones? Anyway, I do, I amit, often take them out in the garden and empty them into a paper bag to reuse them. Its not a nice job and a dirty one, but I have not had any problems with it. (but am a bit embarrassed at this stingyness.)

have you replaced the belt on the dyson recently.?

these wear and become stretched and lose suction.

we have a long haired dog, and this fixed this.

I have the Dyson Animal and it works well with my 2 dogs, one of which is particularly hairy. I hoover every day, sometimes twice.

I recently bought a Hoover brand one with a pet attachment. It is a special small one that can be stored in 45cm of space! It has washable filters and is bagless so no ongoing costs.
Best of all it was reduced from £140 to £65 in Comet!
