My pooch is confusing me.
I would have thought that my dog whos unfixed would have enjoyed the company of a young (fixed) pretty collie dog named Crystal - oh how wrong was I!!!!!
Last month we introduced them, mainly as my mother in law (crystals mummy) looks after our dog if we go away for a day etc and vice versa - no intention for any form of funny business (wanted to clarify that - no breeding ever in these households! before i get grilled by everyone) but more to see if they could be kept together with no problems
They hated each other and had to be seperated.
Then last week we looked after my sister in laws dog (he stayed in his house and we went over to see him daily etc) well we introduced Bruno (our dog) and Georgie (unfixed adult dalmation -
claim to fame he was dipstick in the 101 damations movie!
) and anyway they got on like a house on fire. They were inseperable and pined for each other, so they've been walked together regularly.
Met a new dog Boy yesterday (again unfixed) and him and Bruno got on fine - walking together and playing, sharing treats and water etc - no problems. As we were leaving the field and Bruno was back on his lead, a female Boxer came on the field and they were introduced (leashed) you'd think world war 3 was starting, there was growling, snarling, etc
i just dont get it - does anyone else have this problem with their dogs and dogs of the same sex???

sorry Sammy_Kaye - can't help at all but thanks - you made me laugh. I thought I had problems with Floyd trying to eat small dogs but at least he's on the 'right bus!':rotfl:Bern :j0

It could possibly be a dominance issue

Perhaps your dog sees himself as "top dog" and the other dogs in his life are happy with that. The trouble starts when the females are introduced as they are so often dominant that you dog is battling for his spot
And perhaps Im talking rubbish
But I did hear mention that girly dogs are usually the dominant dog in any mixed household 0 -
I have the opposite problem... Kira is FINE with male dogs, you put a b!tch near her and you better watch out! Whilst I can call her off the dog walker can't so it's a good job she knows 99% of the dogs in the village and knows long before Kira spots them if they're male or female...
You might find that a lot of b!tches are very intollerant of bouncy "rude" doggy behaviour and JRs can be abitty bit bouncy

I was sat reading threads last night and having a chin wag with mother in law as always and it has suddenly dawned on the pair of us that when we introduced them we were in my mother in laws house too so in tern we were in HER house. So i think we have solved the reason - every other dog he has been introduced to was on mutual ground if you like so wonder if it is worth a reintroduction in a while in a park or something.
Tine - yeah I get that he can be a bit bouncy because of his breed but shes only 3 years old too (the collie) and i wondered if the age thing would have done it - although hes smaller my dog bruno is 7.
I do remember a dominance thingy someone said on another forum - dogs fight to breed, !!!!!es fight to breathe - why i remember that ive no idea and I wonder if like previously said it is a dominance thing - I mean i rule the roost in my house although boyfriend likes to think he does until hes brought down a step or two.
Think my problem is solved....... well the reason for it - whether they get on will remain to be seen - maybe they jsut simply cant stand each otehr - or crystal is just stroppyTime to find me again0 -
