Thanks for all this guys. I guess I'm still at the beginning stages of working out what I can get from my car before doing all the sums. My car is quite old and so I can't rely on the warning light and the odometer(?) doesn't work correctly so I'm gonna fill up, do say a 10 mile trip and fill up again to see what I get. Then I can start the joyous task of working out all the sums for gallons, litres, miles, kms etc!! Hopefully I'll then be able to work out if I'm being paid a good amount by my company or I should switch to public transport.

    Again, many thanks guys!

For more accuracy I`d do that over a whole tankfull or maybe more.

I get reimbursed on a pence per business mile basis. I always fill to the brim and regularly make a note of my mileage and how much I paid each time. I can then keep an eye on whether I`m being paid for my petrol or paying them to go to work.

If you get in the habit of filling the car and noting the mileage on the receipts you can monitor your consumption pretty accuratley and also see the benefit in figures should you choose to try economy driving techniques.

Just to be slightly pedantic you won't get miles per litre. On the continent they work on litres per 100 kilometres and obviously mpg her all very confusing.

    Go to Google

Type in "1 gallon in liters"

    Hit enter

Use figure to convert your mpg to mpl. Use "1 mile in kilometers" if required.

    Not that hard really. :p
