Miles per litre

Hi

Does anyone know of any websites where it's possible to get the average mile per litre on a particular car? My "mile counter" doesn't work very well and I don't want to rely on it. My company are paying a certain amount of money per mile and I am trying to work out if it is worth it, or whether to switch over to public transport.

Any assistance gratefully recieved!

i always find the figures irrelevant as the test figures quoted will be different to your driving style

Best way to work out your costs is to fill the car righ up (say to the first click of the nozzle) then do the round trip then return to the petrol station and fill to the first click again

However much goes in the second time will give you the cost in ££

I find this much better than looking up figures

Just to be slightly pedantic you won't get miles per litre. On the continent they work on litres per 100 kilometres and obviously mpg her all very confusing.

Very true but with this country clinging on to miles but selling petrol in litres its all a blasted nightmare.

Nope all she has to do is fill and and note how many miles and litres and divide

Shes acutally more concerned with cost rather than anything, it does mattey if distance measured in goats!

Just divide the mpg figure by 4.546
There are 4.546 litres in a gallon

Here is the calculation for my car. I get 45mpg and this shows me that I get 9.8988 miles per litre (just put in your own figure for mpg):

For cost per mile, use this one

116 = pence per litre (you can change this)
45 = how many mpg I get (you change this for your car)
4.546 = litres in a gallon (set figure, don't change)

Showing I pay 11.718p/mile for fuel.

10 miles per litre is 45mpg.

Thats how I calculate my mileage. Wait for warning, put in 25 litres and see how many miles I get before the warning goes off again. 220 this time round - 40mpg.

I posted this site http://www.saveyourcash.co.uk/fuel/totalcost.aspx (one of my own) on another thread, but at the risk of spamming, I'll post it here.
It should enable you to look at the total costs of running your car.

I've just added a new feature to allow you to record your own MPG figures in the same way as hewhoisnotintheknow recommends.

Thats innacurate, im my cars the light comes on then goes off sometimes for upto 20 miles. The most accurate way is filling right up then driving some distance and filling right up again
