Councils can get awkward about what is classified as household waste too. I put wallpaper that I had stripped into a green bag as paper. Then read in local rag that this is not recyclable due to adhesive so I put into a black bag. The bag was slightly torn overnight and I saw the binman inspect it by ripping it right open so the contents spilled out. He then left it. When I asked why he said it's not 'household waste'. I rang the local council to enquire further. I explained as above why the paper was in a black bag and he said it's not household waste so they don't have to take it. I asked what is household waste and he told me to search the web to find out! I asked why they littered the highway with waste and he told me it was my problem as it was my waste.

I went through the Councils corporate complaint officer to say his attitude was not acceptable nor was it acceptable to spill the contents over the pavement. They collected and apologised while still denying they should have collected.

I think they'd find that a hard one to prosecute. 'It wisnae me M'Lud, my neighbours must be sneaking their waste into my bin after I take it out, honest'.

I have been having a clear out though recently and have discovered if the bin is full, you can get a little more in it by climbing in the bin and jumping up and down :o

Hehe, if the bins are "compacted" the bin men wont take em here :)
