I had an email yesterday from Scottish Power stating that the 'fixed till 2011' (which is now closed) is being replaced by a new fixed Price tariff today so watch this space............

  • Yeh, I had a call from them yesterday itself enquiring as to what I was looking for on their website. I mentioned the 2011 tariff, and the guy did mention another one was being brought in.

I signed up yesterday and had an email confirming the switch request and whne I logon it says I'm on 'fixed price energy online.

As this seems so close to cut off point I will have to wait and see if I'm on new or old fixed tariff. Saved the pdf with the prices on yesterday, so can argue that is the one I signed up for, if they put me on new less favourable one.

isnt that the fixed 2009 tariff? Thats also on their website..

Anyhow, I dont think I will bother fixing it for just a year, it has to be for a couple of years if anything.. I rather get the cheapest tariff (which is a fair bit cheaper than Fixed 2009) instead.

The only fixed tariff I have found so far are until 2009, so looks like I've missed a long term fix!!

According to www.ukpower.co.uk the new Fixed till 2009 (August) tariff goes live on 15 June. The day and night prices quoted are the same as the Fixed till 2011 rate I'm on for Economy 7, but the standing charge is increased by £2 a month. Don't know if there are any penalties for leaving early as this info is not shown.

    Edit

Sorry date should be 13 June, not 15th as above.

The new Fixed Price 2009 product has been detailed on the ScottishPower site for a while (under the 'Get an online quote now' option. it is however stil available to existing customers through the 'change my service' option online (but probably only for a few more weeks)

Good point to highlight this. Up until now many options had no tie in period however it looks like several companies are getting wise to this and starting to tie their customers to the product.
