Thank you Peter, I'll get out there tomorrow and get rid of all the little patches of that then. I've got 3 in the litle bit of a bed in the front garden and quite a few in the back so I had suspected it might be spreading itself and not welcome.

I suspect the other one may be a weed as well but all I'm basing that on is that I've got quite a bit of it. It may just be that the previous owner really liked it.

I'd say no 1 was herb robert, a prolific weed but easy to remove tho it keeps coming back. Nos 2/3 look like a willowherb, probably not rosebay.

Suggest you get rid of both.
  • Both are technically weeds The geranium (herb robert) and the Epilobium - and both are pretty invasive - if I were you I would just dig them up and get rid of them - you don't want either in a veg garden. They don't have much in the way of wildlife benefits either - aside pollunators - so they aren't really of much benefit

Sorry Peter (not being offensive or anything waving hello) I am pretty sure its not rosebay willow herb - the growth of the emerging shoots is different - but I do think its Epilobium montanum - broad leafed willow herb which forms a mat like growth

I'll get rid of all that tomorrow then. Thank you everyone for your help. Whatever the specific names of them are it's good that everyone has agreed about what to do about them.

    Thank you

I moved into a new house last year and am only just able to start work on the garden (had too much stuff to do in the house before.)

I've found 3 different types of unidentified plant growing and I really want to figure out what they are so I can decide whether to dig them up or let them grow. Thank you for any help anyone can give.

This one is creeping buttercup. I have it all over my garden and it's a nightmare! Only way to get rid of it is dig it all out. The roots are quite long and creep all over the place, hence the name.

Not offended at all, just been washing hands after removing its relatives from a few hundred pots this week. Whichever it is its best burned, don't compost it, it'll go everywhere.:D

I'm a bit confused by this thread, but this is creeping buttercup:

    ranunculus%20repens.jpg

The picture I'm seeing above this one is Herb Robert. The other picture is another weed I have, but it's not epilobium, as I'm pleased to say I don't have Willow Herb. Don't know what it is, but they should all come out anyway!
