  • Well done. That cost to them will now be spread amongst our insurance bills.

Funny how things work out, isn't it?

No, I was with them already, I had 3 cars insured with them, one policy ran out, canclled the other and now this one.
In T&C it doesnt state about the fe, just says they can charge a cancellation fee, however it states £25 not £45, but would appear it went up:confused:

hi! how did you go about complianing about this £45 charge. i just signed up for insurance with them and canceled within the 14 day cooling off period (10 days).
  • I have recently suffered this charge likewise, though my own motor policy was a mere 3 months old (car reached EOL). It was not only £45 but this plus an additional fee of about £10, quite disproportionate to the refund value from the underwriter; which in itself represented a 50% penalty.

I too am pursuing the complaints process, but don't hold out much hope of any reasonable further compensation. However, if I can get my £50+ worth of their time plus the negative publicity gained through friends / colleagues, it might just be worth it. Surely this is the effect of 'so many people pursuing them through the ombudsman also' ?

Interestingly, even before I read this, this was the impression I got from the last letter I received from the local branch manager.

IMHO The best bit of advice from this forum is the "go to the Insurer direct rather than through a broker such as Swinton". After all, there is plenty of competitors to choose from. That's what I'll ensure I do in future.
