Booked my mums boiler in yesterday and they can do it next week!

I called last night and they are coming Friday.
  • I on a different post have taken boiler cover for £16.50 a month with Southern Electric and been put onto "Betterplan" a new tariff apparently that will match my electric usage 1 for 1 from them but what me made go for this is as I am now on Betterplan, I get £20 off my first energy bill then 3 months after another £25 and a further £50 off your energy bill for taking your cover from us. So in 6 months my bill will be reduced by £95.
I'm chuffed to bits with it as my argument with the thing British Gas tried to do to me:naughty: (see my other thread).

Also took my phone as well from them and get £40 off of my energy bill for that so I am hopefully saving £135 in 6 months.:j

so thanks to R Y 61854 you know who you are at southern. I know he reads here.

Has anyone else had any problems with their boiler post Npower service?

We have a problem that was noticed a few days after the service.
It could be pure co-incidence, but we are of course a little suspicious that the service has caused the problem.

    Lisyloo,

My best friend and parents both had theres serviced and no problems however my brother who is training to be an engineer tells me that sometimes a service can disturb your boiler, the dirt cleaned out of your boiler is replaced with dirt from the system or soemthing? He said that its occasional and is usually on older systems.

My recommendation would be to ring npower- tell them what has happened surely they'd come and look if you tell them it hasn't worked right since they serviced it?

I haven't called them but I have a strong suspicion that they would charge to come and then refund IF they accept they caused the problem.
I suspect they will charge more to come out than my local man and it may not be easily provable that they did anything and it could be pure coincidence anyway.

The most likely scenario is that they have disturbed something so it may be ahrd to prove.

We have hot water meantime (from immersion) so I'm waiting for our local guy to come who's very reasonable on price.
If I get independent evidence that they have done something then I will take action against them (I haven't had the bill from the service yet so I am £19.99 in hand).

It may not be them at all but the timing is just suspicious.
It's 5 years old but not ancient.
The boiler is staying on ALL the time.
I'm wondering if they flicked a switch but we cannot get the front cover off ourselves so we have to wait for boiler man to come.

In general companies do not come out for free and give you benefit of the doubt, but will refund if it's their problem.

I was told that boiler manufacturers don`t like the boilers being disturbed too much at the service as it does seem to create problems with the boiler, especially if the vacuum it out! Had mine done a few weeks ago and mine wasn`t vacuumed.

Yes I think disturbance is the most likely explanation.
It's does give some credance to the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" axiom.
I will see what our local man thinks.
I suspect it may just be tough as clearly we'd need some proof if we want to claim they did it.
BTW - I'm not trying to claim off them unfairly. Only if it's clear it's related, which I doubt it will be.

However if they left some switch for "TEST mode" left on then I'll be sending them the bill.

    UPDATE

My problem is in no way related to the Npower service.
    It was pure coincidence.

I have tried to be careful what I say but I withdraw anything that looks remotely like an accusation against Npower.
