Gas Boiler Service for £19.99

Hi everyone, just had an email from npower offering me a gas boiler service for £19.99 which sounds quite cheap to me. They say its a £54 saving off their usual price for a limited time and only a limited number available. I don't have gas so not one for me but thought you guys could benefit. The number is 0800 975 1414
The restrictions say that it is only for a limited time and limited number and services must be completed before the end of June - other than that it sounds fairly open.

Knowing NPower I expect they only send that offer for gas boiler servicing to 'all electric' properties.;)0

I sent it to my gran who's booked it so we will see!0

Hi,
You could always go on their "One" tariff which caps your rates till August 2009 and gives you free boiler cover for twelve months.
Just a thought,

One? Whats that? Is it cheap?
Do you get a service in with it? Think my brother has boiler cover but it doesn't include a service.
Just been searching their website and i can't find anything about the one tarrif.0 -
Try putting in your postcode here and you should see the tarriff.

I think horseylover has a point as I don't think a service is included so if you want to take preventative action and make sure you are safe then I don't think the boiler insurance includes the service.0 -
excellent, just did.
That sounds awesome - i like the word FREE when its linked to anything worthwhile and last time my brothers boiler brokedown it cost him nearly £500 to fix it.0 -
It probably is not cheap by todays prices.
So it depends on how much you think prices will rise by.
It's a gamble.
I am going to compare with my own tarriff tonight (SOL8) but you are basically gambling on whether the actual rise will or will not outstrip the fixed prices.
I don't know how it works out but it certainly has some attraction.
They also have a rate fixed til 2011.
Again a gamble but I would be prepared to bet that fossill fuels are not going to get cheaper and could rise significantly (by that I don't think 40% is out of the question in the next few years).
I need to do some maths, but in principle the idea is attractive.0 -

Yes but bear in mind this is worth about £80 and is for 1 year only.
Obviously it's a false economy paying a lot more than £80 extra on the tarriff to get something for free that's worth £80, so check out the maths.
Obviously bearing in mind the fixed featuer as well.ast time my brothers boiler brokedown it cost him nearly £500 to fix it.
It's a scary propect but also bear in ind that people have paid £80 for 10 years and nothing has gone wrong.
As with all insurance it's usually cheaper to "self insure".
Your brother was unlucky.
With "average" luck you will be better off notpaying for the insurance comapnies poh offices and shareholder dividends.
But there is also some value with having peace of mind.0 -
Many thanks for the info.
I have signed up for the boiler service and I'm fixing my gas.
Interestingly the gas increase is 17% and the electricity about 80% (so I'm not switching that).
So it's really important todo the maths.0 -
Booked my mums boiler in yesterday and they can do it next week!
Its only certain days of the week but hey for £20 shes not complaining!
They will ring between 8 and 9 am on the day to say when they will be coming so I guess thats better than having to sit in ALL day not knowing at all!
Fingers crossed it will be after 2pm so she doesnt have to take the day off0
