Post Office phone line question

Hi I want to switch from Virgin Media so I can go with sky broadband and sky talk (already have the tv). I don't have an active bt phone line and my house was a new build with a bt line but never activated. My question is if I go through the post office and get the phone line set up will it be a bt line? I want to go with the post office because you are not tied to a 12 month contract and then I am free to go with sky talk. So If I take the post office phone will I be able to get sky talk?
Thanks in advance for any help.

You cant get Sky Talk on a Post Office Line, you can only get it on a BT or a Sky Talk Line.If you move your line rental from PO to Sky you would be able to get Sky Talk.
Have you asked Sky if they will fit a new line to save all the messing about?0 -
Thanks for your reply. As I believe it sky won't do the line. I have booked the post office line rather than BT as I am then tied in to a contract. The post office have said it is a BT line I will be getting so I could then switch over to Sky talk. I would then still pay my line to the post office and have the sky talk £5 package. I am a bit confused by it all and I just wanted someone to tell me this all correct?0

The post office have said it is a BT line I will be getting so I could then switch over to Sky talk.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

That is really helpful thank you. What I will do then is cancel the switch to post office and get the BT line on an 18 month contract for the £29.99 and then just pay them the £70 for breaking the contract early.0

You are under the wrong impression.
There is no "pay them £70 for breaking the contract early".
If you want out, then you must pay up the full 18 months at £11.75 per month.0 -
I have just spoke to the post office again and they say it is a bt line that they rent. I then spoke to sky talk and they said it won't be a problem getting sky talk as it is a BT compatible line. They said the only way they can't do it if it is an independent company like virgin or talk talk. So I think I have it all sorted now. It is very confusing and very time consuming but I have it sorted now. Thank you all for your help.0

I think the OP is going to get the Post Office to install the line and then jump ship immediately and take Sky line rental and Sky Talk Unlimited (he cannot take that as a CPS service unless he pays line rental directly to BT).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
