I've just called my daughter orange to orange on a greek island cruise, as I have ample free minutes, will they be attributed to the call ? or will I be charged. islandman

Your daughter will certainly be charged, but not sure if it will come out of your free minutes or not0

If you have free Orange to Orange minutes then this call will almost certainly come out of those. The fact that you know your daughter is in Greece is irrelevent. People calling a UK mobile number can not be expected to know if the person they are calling is overseas, so calls should always be charged at the normal rate (and this should include free minutes).
PS Thanked you instead of quoting - not intentional.0 -
As you are dialling an Orange Mobile Number it is included in your inclusive minutes, she will be charged in the normal way for recieving calls outside UK.
If however you were dialling an International mobile number or landline direct,it would not be included in your inclusive minutes.PF.0 -

You asked why I said what I put, then you wrote more or less what I did, that she would be charged for an orange to orange call while she was away. I just wasn't sure about the minutes coming out of his tariff, not having an orange phone. Looks like i wrote it badly, so it doesn't make sense0 -

Thankyou for both of your imputs. There are two things I'd like to comment on.
1) Overnight, I sort of remembered something I'd read on this board (and lord knows, there is MUCH to read & learn from), that you could dial abroad using free orange minutes, but you had to enter a prefix code first. I wonder if that is still so?.
2), secondly, the thing that HAS suprised me, is that my daughter will be required to pay for RECEIVING my call as she is "abroad".

1.Yes this is still the case you can now phone abroad again on Orange using 07744 access numbers out of your inclusive minutes.https://www.simply-fone.co.uk is one provider of such calls.(This would have been no benefit to you when phoning your daughter on her mobile).
2.When people call UK mobiles that are abroad(roaming) the reciever of the call pays for the intl leg between the uk and x country. This principle applies to all operators. This is due to the fact that the caller may not know you are abroad, and it would not be fair to charge them for the intl leg of the call. This can prove very expensive to the receiver of such calls.PF.0 -
