  • I wouldn't touch a flext plan - all calls no matter how long under 1 minute you will be charged 20p per minute - if under it will be rounded up to the full minute. Even if you phone and don't speak to anyone or leave a message you will be charged 20p.

You'd have to do that 1,000 times to run out of minutes though :-)

I love my flext package, especially as it allows pic messages as part of your allowance.

I tend to hang up after 5 rings if it's not an urgent call (at no cost) or leave a reasonable voice message (at a cost of one minute's allowance)

To say your charged 20p is a bit of a con really, you're charged 1/1000th of your allowance, or 2.25p to be precise on this latest deal.

If only they'd allow video calls to come off your allowance

    Cheers

    You have lost me.

You dont start paying 20p a minute until your flexible monthly inclusive allowance has been used up.

If you just used the allowance for calls you would pay just 2.25p per minute for the first 1000 minutes, which is a very good rate for x-net calls.

so a flexi package is not 1000 xnet free calls, you have to pay for them?
  • In answer to Simon Wallace: I am on the Flext 12 month plan with £40 worth of credit a month - making 200 minutes of calls or 400 texts - BUT if you check the website, as I did, and click on the legal stuff you are charged at 20p per minute - to be precise "any calls under 60 seconds will be rounded up to the 1 minute charge for that type of call therefore the applicable per minute rate will apply. The minumum call charge will be taken from the Flext allowance unless: 1) the allowance has been used (therefore on-net, off-net and landline calls will be charged at 20p), 2) it is a voicemail call which will charged at 12p, 3) it is an international or roaming call so will be dependent on the per minute cost of the zone which is being called, 4) it is a call the Customer Services or Directory Enquiries." This is taken directly from the site.

I checked with their customer services department and was told that 10 x 2 second calls would cost me £2.00 so I'm sorry but I don't understand where you are getting your information from Simon Wallace.

I think the point is, that the allowance will be used (as highlighted above) So although you will be charged £2 for 10 x 2 second calls, it'll be £2 from the Flext allowance and not £2.00 added seperately to the bill.

Therefore, as Simon correctly pointed out, you'd need to make 1000 2 second calls a month to use your allowance up. I maybe get through to a voicemail box but more often than not, if it's when someones phone is on but they've just not got to it, even leaving no voicemail the caller will return your call (if they know you) thus actually saving you minutes anyway over if they'd answered.

Although it is a bit of a rip off nonetheless, it isn't as bad on PAYG since the £0.20 minimum charge is coming from the allowance and not actual money.

No. It's £200 allowance and from that allowance you can choose from calls to UK landlines and UK mobiles for £0.20/min (1 minute minimum charge) and UK SMS at £0.10/each and UK MMS at £0.20/each.

That's essentially what makes the plan so flexible, because you're not limited to fixed amounts of minutes/SMS
