A&L are quick to impose charges too. I arranged a transfer from the linked PlusSaver a/c to my Premier Current a/c on the day I was expecting a large DD. Sure enough it happened but they stuck me for a £25 Paid Item Charge. When I queried it, they said I should have done the transfer the day before but offered to refund half the charge. Apparently its in the small print but where was my money in the meantime? At least they didn't bounce the payment which would have triggered charges from the withdrawing institution!
A&L are worth sticking with for interest & perks (travel insurance) if you can abide by their rules.
The moral for me is: sailing close to the wind means sometimes you'll capsize.

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.
  • fd have a call centre in Leeds, and one in Hamilton, Glasgow. They don't have any abroad, and aren't moving any abroad. Unless you're talking about HSBC, who do have CCs overseas, yes.

Phone them up, and tell them to stop. Simple as that.

I have that's what is so infuriating!!

  • just to play devils advocate - you're complaining about charges that have never been made, so you're proof that a bank account can be run without charges - a feat that some people on this forum fail to grasp or acknowledge - as to chaps payments, payments abroad etc - they are a service above & beyond the normal requirements of a standard personal account, of which basic services like regular payments, statements ,provision of cheque books & debit cards are all free, so the banks charge a fee for this extra service - the financial institutions are a business like any other & charge fees like any other business - so would you call a plumber in to repair your boiler & then complain when he charges you for the parts to do the job? -

it amazes me that just because i havent been charged by a bank it means that i cant have an opinuion on how high they are?

oh please. I set this post up asking for peoples opinuions and this is what i get? thanks anyway
    :santa2:
  • who said you can't have an opinion? you're entitled to yours & I am to mine - if you were only looking for people to agree with yours then you're in for a shock on this website - try asking 'mean machine' about house prices! - it's just that you are in the minority in moving your account over bank charges that haven't been applied, usually it's the other way around but you're free to choose like eveybody else - other costs get my goat in which you have little choice, unlike a bank account, council tax, for one, water & utilities - going back to your OP, if your looking to change for ethical reasons then the Co-op may be to your liking :-)
