Couldn't the use these details for something else??
You are wise to be wary of divulging your bank details to strangers!uktim29 wrote:Only the mass crime of many random people putting money in your bank account!
That's exactly what Jeremy Clarkson thought too ... until he discovered the hard/expensive way!

It is like everything else JC does, publicity.
Odd that with all the cheques people send everyones bank account isn't being raided by strangers.
Even if money had been taken from him, you are covered by the direct debit guarantee and the banks would have to refund you.0 -

(i.e. I therefore know them and invariably their address too)
Apparently, in order to defraud, you need the address of the person's account as well, something Jeremy Clarkson disclosed unlike any of those ads in private eye (are they even genuine? Is anything in Private eye genuine?)
When a bank send you a new chequebook in the post, the front page, which includes your name, address, account number and sort code (the only page that includes all the necessary details to commit fraud), it clearly says if the details are correct destroy that page for security reasons.
I guess like many others, I usually don't. The last time I went to my bank and handed over my chequebook (mine includes some paying in slips too) the teller was particularly annoyed to see the front page still intact, warned me of the significant security risk (as stated on the page) and removed/destroyed the page before handing the chequebook back."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Mm, well I can't see the PE team inventing scores of pointless and unfunny classifieds every fortnight just for the hell of it. They do charge for classified ads, and it's not just the 'Please send me money ones'
