Do cashback deals work?

Hello, I have looked at some of the deals through https://www.!!!!!!.com and find it truly unbelievable that you can say get a Nokia 3120 on an O2 anytime contract for free. I understand the trick with the free insurance - can be cancelled - and also think that I can handle the cashback forms once every three months. Of course that is "cost" - my time and attention - but since I am cash strapped, I don't mind too much. Anybody here to report that this actually works? Even Martin's line on this is ambiguous as he implies on the webpage that claiming this cashback is not as straightforward as it looks. Hence I would be interested in a few stories good and bad before joining this little game.

    1. If using a comparison site, you may prefer to clear cookies and go via a cashback ( or personal referral) site

    2. Over recent years I have used e2save ( both before and after cpw takeover) for at least 6 contracts , and CPW for 3 ( include wife/son's phones - even I don't use this many phones) , all the cashback paid up - some after a few calls

Recently used mobileshop, as deal looked better, their service to date is good / claims process clear ( if not perhaps a bit messy)

  • It is no problem at all - just send in the bills and forms at the right time. If you can't do that then you shouldn't really be in charge of a phone !
    To infinity and beyond!

I have done two of these 12 month free deals so far, both with cash back at certain points in the contract. They do work and they are real - you normally need to be on the ball enough to post the claim within 14 days and things like that.

I used to work for Voda and we found that loads of people simply forgot to claim - so companies can afford to pay out and make a small loss on the ones who are actually paying attention.

my current deal was found though mobile reserve (with onestopphoneshop) and I have had no problems.

    Good Luck

    Yes it works - sometimes....

I'm one of the people who are still licking my wounds after fwdcellular went bankrupt before paying me the cashback they owed me.

However, so long as the company does not go bankrupt, and it actually pays up then you should be okay!

The best advice I have had on this subject is at least get one with a decent phone and then if you do not get your cashback you can sell the phone and recoup some of your losses.

Oh yes and excluding the Fwdcellular contract still to run, I have three cashback offers (one of which I have nearly broken even on).

i went for a cashback deal with carphonewarehouse (the nokia 7600 deal from last november where u need to send in 6th and 12th bill).

i sent in my 6th bill in april by recorded post, and waited the 30 days or however long they said it would take to process and send me the cheque, but then they claimed they hadnt received it, even though according to the royal mail website, where you can check if items sent by recorded delivery have been delivered, they had received it. They told me to send it in again, which was a bit difficult as i had already sent them the original copy of the bill... anyway i managed to download a pdf copy of the bill from the 3 website and emailed it in to them, and they said that was fine and they had received it but it would take another 14 days to process.

14 days went by, no sign of the cheque, so and i emailed them again to ask them where my cheque was, they said they didnt know and they said wait another 21 days for it to be processed.

21 days go past, and still no sign of the cheque. its now september, nearly at the end of my 12 months contract and i still havent received my cashback cheque!!!!

this was my first experience of doing a cashback deal, and i thought i would be safe dealing with a well known high street company, alas i was wrong, and have become extremely disillusioned with the cashback system and carphonewarehouse...

IMO CPW have lost their reputation for very decent customer service and are gradually becoming like the other common phone retailers. I don't bother with them anymore, mainly due the fact that they don't offer anything special anymore, they are average in my eyes.
  • Had a deal through OSPS and all absolutely fine. Even when a cashback claim went astray in post they sorted it. Go for it.

i have had around 21 contracts in the past 18 months......i also did cashback deals before then as well.....with dialaphone, osps, talkworld, e2save.....so far got back all my cheques although some with a little effort thrown in re calls and emails........but u hav to be on the ball, top tip, write down in ur diary to remind u that a cahsback claim is due to be collected, put a reminder note 14 days again after the initial note and u will never miss a claim!

Did cashback via e2save and all worked out fine. I did have to chase them a couple of times but all worked out fine. Have just got a new phone deal through e2save so will be claiming cashback in a few months ;)
Looking to raise some money ;)
  • I am on my 3rd cashback deal with Dialaphone and so far have had all moneys paid to me including all referral fees I have generated and the lloydstsb £40 bonus. I would say you can trust Dialaphone.
