hi there jus read yr post and yr hubbys back condition sounds much like mine

i was awareded DLA (after an appeal) for a year but after that year was turned down again so i appealed and after 6months i have jus recently been re-awarded it.... the DLA people sent out a dr to examine me and she was very helpful and i am sure its because of her that i got my award back

please do go to appeal and dont be put off.. i filled in all the forms myself and just honestly put how bad it gets at times.. i didnt actually attend the hearing myself as i felt there was nothing more to be added to the documents

i have now been made an award that lasts 2yrs (no doubt i will have to go thru this again then sigh)

    good luck

keep appealing. go to the office with your hubby and state everything that needs to be done for him. make sure your g.p. is made aware of what you are doing and what your hubby is going through. next time hubby goes to the g.p. go with him and tell the doc exactly what is wrong. good luck and keep going

Just a thought - Does your local council offer help? I had an assesment from the council's occupational therapist - basically you show them how you manage everyday tasks etc - the council helped me by installing a shower (bliss) but - the report was very useful with DLA too. Don't give up!

thanks to the above posters, what a difference this has made. today tried ringing the cab to make appt as last time we sat and waited for two hours just to make an appt to fill in dla and husband finds it difficult standing/sitting for any length of time so thought it better to just make an appt over the phone but no reply, think i will write to them, i know they are v busy and we are certainly not the only ones who need their help. spoke to dla and they are sending us the oral appeal forms and statement of reasons. does anyone have any idea of the timescale from putting in the appeal.

I know it seems like im taking over his claim but he really is a different man now, in the past we were very equal in dealing with things but since redundency im the breadwinner (which he finds hard to accept), he cant be bothered with pretty much anything now doesnt shave or wash much and has lost just over two stone, me on the other hand seem to have found his 2st stone!!!!

well as i said mine took 6months but i think thats ecause i asked for a re-assessment first which delayed things a bit

if u cant get to the CAB do your forms yrself.. i just reiterated everything and didnt make hardly any changes to my initial claim forms - well there wasnt anything to add

if y hub cant deal with it he needs u to take over and thats something u could add to your claim that he doesnt feel able to cope with things.. hopefully u will get a DLA dr visit and if anything like mine will be very helfpul

    good luck

I does vary how long it takes for an appeal to be heard but it is generally a few months but can take longer as mentioned above.

    Hi healy,
I have not read the whole thread, may be this was suggested before. Your council will normally have a social care person, contact him/ her, they will come round and help fill in the forms. I have known people refused it as there is a correct way of doing this, once the social care person get involved then every thing works out.
    good luck,

when you say 'local council' does this mean the borough council (whom we pay our council tax to) or the county council??

Sorry, the local council, they are the only one's who provide social care, i think.

Isn't it strange that some people can get DLA for trivial conditions while others with really debilitating conditions get turned down? Keep trying, a genuine disc problem really limits what you can do for yourself. Good luck.

sorry to burst your bubble, but dla is paid for care and or mobility needs, its not paid for trivial conditions as its not the condition that gets dla BUT the care and or mobility needs.
The problem with many people who apply for dla is that they dont take the time to research the subject, the forms if filled in propery will take anything upto 4 hours to complete, some people do it in 10 minutes then wonder why they get refused, the reason is usually that they havent supplied enough detail of their needs but just wrote something along the lines"i have xy or z illness can i have dla"
    rant over:mad:
