What's the deal?

Loyalty shopping club, Shop Scan Save, is offering a free Mars bar when you register online for its free mobile phone shopping discounts club before 30 July.

How to get the free Mars bar

• Register. Go to Shop, Scan Save to register.

• You're sent a picture message. You'll receive a picture message (for free) to your mobile with your personal barcode on it (if you can't get picture messages, you'll just get a numerical version of the barcode).

• Take it to the shop. Take it to your nearest PayPoint shop, where it'll scan the barcode and give you a variety of offer tokens, one of which is a free Mars bar. Paypoint is a mammoth retail network of local newsagents and convenience stores, with scores of shops. Find your nearest one.

• It'll send regular promo texts, but you can stop them. You'll get sent roughly two promotional texts every three weeks, with other discount vouchers on them. To stop these email [EMAIL="info@shopscansave.com"]info@shopscansave.com[/EMAIL] or text 62111 to opt out (at your normal network rate).

Are you a Pigsback user? Bag some extra points

Pigsback is a cashback site which offers piggy points everytime you shop via it. (For more info read the Top Cashback Sites guide). It's offering 20 points (worth about 17p) when you join Shop Scan Save through it.

They will send an electronic voucher to your phone, to be redeemed at any paypoint convenience store.

If you go via https://www.pigsback.co.uk you can get 50 points for signing up to the site and an extra 20 points for using the voucher.

Edit: I think you might have to go via pigsback for the mars bar

Nope, just got a text from them "Your requested offers from SHOP SCAN SAVE@Paypoint: FREE Mars 62.5g to the value of 50p. Offer valid 7 days."

I think the places that have Paypoint near me charge more than 50p for a Mars Bar tho.

Not one paypoint store I have tried knows what to do with these texts. I am fed up. If they are going to do these type of offers they should at least tell the shopkeepers what to do with them.

Can I just point out that 20 points is no longer worth 20p on Pigsback. You now need 1150 points to claim a £10 voucher.

Also no one on the Pigsback thread has been successful in claiming a free Mars bar.

Also not all PayPoint stores are participating in this offer according to the Shop Scan Save website.

It's an easy 50 points if you do Pigsback. There are far too much effort to claim a Mars bar, even with the bonus 20 Pigsback points!

Nice one i love mars bars! Only thing is the paypoint website is showing the only place to get it near me is a garage bang smack in the middle of a national forest park!
Thankfully i know where it actually is.

I did it through Pigsback,

no mars bar!

Also, their text every two to three weeks was actually 25 texts in the first 3 days for me, so I killed it!
