I thought I'd just let you all know I passed my CompTIA A+ Essentials today with a fairly respectable score of 730.

My appology's, I know this is the wrong part of the forum. But I spend most of my time here and in greenfingers.

I hoping to do Network+ and Security + next year, although nothing is planned yet. First things first though I've been looking for a job online. To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0

Firstly Congratulations
Secondly, if I were you I'd get some experience (paid or unpaid-charity) then either go the server or networking route. Once you have done this you can further specialize on the server side onto citrix, SQLserver, VmWare. On the comms side it is voice, video streaming etc. If you want big £££, you have to specialize and have a recognised qualification too.
I would ask you to think about MS and Cisco certification, rather than the other comptia courses. A+ is Comptia's flagship course, no other largely available course at this level is comparable. Just search jobserve etc and find out how many times Network+ or Security + are ask for in comparison to other quals.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.0 -
Actually, quick question. Do you think A+ networking qualifications are better or is it better to do an HND in networking?0

What role in IT do you want to go into?0

Thanks Bookduck, I was looking at the MS, Cisco route or possibly even Security and Admin. This is only my second year of study and my networking knowlege atm is based around small office and home, the A+ doesn't realy cover much server stuff, although I've learned a bit myself. The only reason I was going to do the Network+ and Security+ was to get a beter understanding of each, and I can decide which route to take afterwards. To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0

What I meant was if you wanted to go into computer networking such as becoming a netowork administrator or engineer is it better to take the industry certs or is it better to do an HND in computer networking at a college?0

Congrats :T
I got my Comptia A+ in Dec 2006 (its was easy IMO) and my Network+ a few weeks ago it was tough going lots of complicated terms etc and things to remember for Network+ i found it tricky, but the last minute cramming i did was enough to get a pass mark.
I am hoping to do my MCSE next year. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0
