Suggest you read the fifth paragraph of Martin's email message last week, which suggests you don't consider switching until the latest round of price rises has gone through for all providers...

    John

But if it's a capped tariff, Martin said that you might as well switch now.

I've been looking at switching too.

Npower I wouldn't touch - heard too many complaints.

Scottish Power also would save me about £81.

However I've since discovered that I can get discounted electricity, capped until May 2007 with BG and save about £170. I could possibly save another £100 by switching just my gas to Scottish Power. Even if SP put up their prices, it would still be worth changing.

We sound like we're in a very similar position Jem. Seems crazy that a gas company offers cheaper electricity and vice versa.

I thought I saw BG's discounted electricity a few weeks back on their website but can find no sight of it since the price increase. Stil showing up on comparison sites too.

Can you definitely still get it and do you have the details, prices etc.

    Many thanks

If you go to the house.co.uk home page, you'll see a box (under the gas symbol) that says "sign up for £190 energy discounts today". Click on that and enter your details and the next page you'll get the info. One box says to apply for existing customers. I applied last night.

    I've still to have prices confirmed but I believe they are 11.6kwh(Tier 1) and 6.452 kwh(Tier 2)

    Gambler,

    Yes you're correct, unfortunately.

From what I can gather, the discount is based on the standard prices. At the moment it's still discounted on their old prices so more of a saving but I would lose some of that saving in 2006.

As I said I'm waiting on confirmation.

    here

should be a pdf showing the discounted rates.
  • I wouldn't touch NPower either - we switched last year (July) and am still waiting for them to bill us - so been fairly cheap at the mo!!!!! Fifty million phone calls later - you'd think they would want our money - and they have finally admitted we are not on their system - NEVER - so have to agree do not go to NPower!
