There was a question a few weeks ago about finding what was taking up space on your computer.
Just found this.
Unlike some of the others that was mentioned, it's free and you don't have to install it (unless you want to) I was really surprised at what was taking up a lot of space
Just download the WinDirStat 1.1.2 Executables (Unicode), unzip it, and click windirstat.exe (or setup.exe if you want to install).
It shows you a page like this where you can click on an area and find out what it is
You can also click options / show free space to show you what you have left

Yes
Looks really cool doesn't it!
Nice of Apple to leave 3 copies of it's installer files for itunes and Quicktime in my Downloaded Installations folder (taking up 192 MB) from the various versions I've installed over the last few months0 -
How does one know what is safe to delete? That's the problem.catch220

System Volume Information is HUGE.
Thanks for a really useful prog - deleted a couple of large files I don't need already.
catch22 - files in the Windows, Winnt, System Volume Information or Program Files folders are generally not advisable to delete (except your interent cache, but as I use opera I've forgotten how to do this with IE). Basically, if unsure, only delete files in folders you have made (or My Documents).
Look for big files in folders you download stuff to (you may find programs you downloaded years ago still there).0 -

That version is for Windows 95, 98 and ME
For Windows NT 4.0, 2000, XP, 2003 it's at WinDirStat 1.1.2 Executables (Unicode)"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

If you press F7 it will "show unknown" - I have 500mb of unknown on my C drive alone (I have 7 partitions) - what the hell is that???0 -

I'd love to do this but when I ran something similar on my PC it turned out that I had deleted things that I needed. I still get messages telling me that programmes cannot run/won't run properly as I don't have XYZ
Is there a way of getting rid of this junk when you haven't got a clue what you're doing?Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
Right click on each of your hard drives, go to Properties and choose Disk Cleanup (button near the pie-chart). That won't delete anything you need.0
