Hi all
I'm new on the old style board, just mooching around trying to find some tips on how to save money that can be put towards the wedding next year.
I am a little confused by this one - what does "whoopsied" mean?
If it'll help me save some dosh, I think I need to become familiar with it

:hello: welcome to OS
whoopsied means reduced to clear (in Asda they put a yellow sticker on it that says "whoops" then the new price when they clear the shelves at the end of the day)
Most of the meat I buy is reduced then I freeze it (if I can wedge it in the ice box) we don't eat a lot of meat but it does save a fortune.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
BIG BIRD
Whoopsied items are the reduced items in the supermarkets - yellow stickers usually. Many moons ago the stickers used to have "woops" written on them hence whoopsy.
My cupboards are rarely full to bursting but never really empty - until now I am trying really hard to use everything I've got before I get more!!
Edit - I see Celyn beat me to it!!Banana LoversBuy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning0 -
Theres rarely very much in our fridge by shopping day.
My MIL thought we were living on the breadline when she looked in my fridge once LOL I keep a carton of milk, cheese ,eggs and the odd piece of veg.
Usually there are one or two homemade things like yoghurt or remains of a pie . By shopping day it is often down to half a block of cheese and the bottom of a carton of milk.
The freezer contains frozen garden veg and a few packs of mince from a bulk pack seperated out into meals worth. Its usually full but a lot is homegrown stuff or frozen ends of bread and chicken carcasses.0 -
:rotfl: :rotfl: I'm glad I'm not the only one that ends up with strange shaped meat from freezer squashing! I took out triangular chicken this morning

My fridge contains, cheese, milk, carrots, courgettes, yoghurt, chicken stock, cold potatoes, remains of some lentil bake thing.
My cupboards are full with very random things
I think i have at least 2 kg of marizpan for example.
Celyn, you need to try Nigella Lawson's quick almond cake. I made it first time at the w/e and it was fab. I think it will keep well too (I can only tell you this, as there are other things being used up first. My visitors loved it.[SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. I'm due to shop today so my fridge & freezer are a desert-wasteland. I always do a meal plan and stick to it like fury. The one thing I am a slattern about though is dried herbs and spices, some of these treasured ingredients were purchased under a conservative government.;)
Fridge Contents:
Lard (for pastry making- vintage unknown)
Low-fat spread
1 pt Milk
1/2 Garlic Bulb
A Matchbox Sized Bit of Cheddar
1/2 Tin of Cat Food
1/2 Bottle of Wine (life expectancy about erm....7hrs LOL)
My lunch Sandwiches & 1 yoghurt
Freezer Contents:
1 White Sliced
6 Finger Rolls
1 Garlic Stick
1 Emergency Chedder
1 Emergency Low-fat spread
1 Emergency 6pt Milk
1/2 Tub of Icecream
1/2 Bag each of Sliced Mushrooms, Peas & Sweetcorn
2 HM Plated Meals for Mrs MATH when I'm away
1 Small Pot of Starter Yoghurt for Yogging (should I ever have the time again!)
6 Icecream Tubs of Stewed ApplesLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
Too much!
However, what gets taken out tends to be cooked into several meals some of which find their way back in there! Lots and lots of soup!
Yes I recognise that! Take out soup meat or chicken carcases and put several litres of stock back in..... Also when I bake it is normally too much for 2 so a lot ends up in the freezer. There is a contingent of frozen fruit and veg from the garden, which only clears just before the new harvest comes in. Plus we buy organic meat 2x per year in bulk. Fresh milk is very difficult to get where we live (apart from imposing on the neighbouring farm), so there's a stock of OH's bottles of full cream and semi skimmed.....
Result the freezer is always full and I can hardly get the lid down!"Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -
What you lot need is the Storecupboard ChallengeMy cupboards are full with very random things

I'm overdue a visit there myself, just for the sake of sorting out my cupboards (I'm doing quite well with the freezer - in the past month I've used up three packs of premuim sausages and a whole duckling, all dated June 2007

I started trying to run down my cupboards and freezer a fortnight ago and I'm still doing it .I can't believe how much stuff I have collected in there I am determined not to buy any more until my cupboards are almost empty and my freezer is bare. That is cash sitting there doing nothing if you think about it .So Mr T isn't getting any of my cash for the foreseeable future.I am only buying fresh fruit and veggies and milk at the moment and am saving a fortune .Had some strange meals though as I forget some times what I've wrapped and put in the freezer. Why have I got 4 pairs of kippers in there I'm not even that keen on them ??0
