help us plan trips north island NZ

hi
we are going to NZ in december and will be based at hamilton .

but we are planning to use buses and tour island and find b&b's on route

as its peak time dec/jan (summer)

should we book places to stay or just find places when we get there

also anyone who has been to NZ could you let us know where we should visit and where we can give a miss

as we are over 50's we will not be bungee jumping but any ideas will be

welcome,

we are thinking about going up the tower in auckland and standing on glass platform anyone done it?

also we had thought about visiting wellington,how many days do we need to stay there ?

we have not planned any route for our tour of NZ so any ideas would help

love to hear from any over 50s who have visited NZ and have ideas for us:T
