Edit: @ Clive.....yes, you do get bonus points when you use your credit card to pay in Tescos outlets.

We use our card for every single purchase we can, it fairly makes the points add up.
I thought they just gave you the points you would get in any case (1 point per £1 for using a clubcard and 1 point per £2 for using the credit card).

That's right, the CCacts as Clubcard too, and you get 1.5 times normal points. It's worth getting. Bumps up your Tesco vouchers.
Bless Martin's Little Cotton Socks. I thank him for giving us MSE. Look what its grown into!

  • Ok, got the letter this morning and I've been turned down :( ... so what do I do now?

Should I call them and ask them to reconsider?

Was I too ambitious in trying to get a "regular" CC so soon?

Have I just set myself back 6 mths again with this? :wall:

will come back to you three times as strong!

  • I've just called Tesco Personal Finance and they've told me to write a letter of appeal, enclosing 3 mths bank statements and a utility bill. Now the bank statements I can do no problem but all my utilities are in the form of internet accounts so I don't actually receive paper bills, and they refuse to accept a printed out copy :wall:

Are BT or Powergen likely to send me a one off paper bill if I ask them?

Not sure I've had one sent in the last 3 months but I can delve amongst the pile of paperwork sitting on my desk and have a look :D

    Hadn't considered that so thanks!

I'm not sure the 3 months matters because they will know that they're only sent out once a year in March.

I've used a Council Tax bill before as address verification for opening online savings accounts.

And now for the query. I included my clubcard details with the application and the credit card has a small clubcard sign on the back. The person on the till at the Tesco garage suggested using the credit card as both a clubcard and credit card as that way more points are received. can anyone confirm this?

The credit card will automatically be accepted as a clubcard at Tesco. For example, when I put mine in the pay and pump machines at the petrol station it reads it first as the clubcard and then I have to put it back in as the payment card. You could just put it in once and then a different card for paying but you would lose points doing it that way.

I have just received my statement and this month there is a note in there saying that in future points accumulated from the credit card will be sent as separate vouchers from the points accumulated from the standard clubcard usage instead of them all being pooled together. I presume this is a more tax efficient way of handling the points for Tesco.

I worried that they were going to stop accepting Clubcard vouchers earned through Personal Finance for the Clubcard Deals.
