I think I can say confidently and without fear of contradiction that B&B will not go bust, 27% up means the people in the know know something, expect a rescue package by close of play friday and a share price of above £1

Or maybe not (I'll edit this out on the I told you so post if the above turns out to be correct)

Generally speaking its the people who don't know anything who specualte the market up or down.

The people who are in the know made their money at the beginning & are now sat on a beach in the Bahamas sipping cocktails & laughing wildly at the mug punters.

after northern rock the government should have made all banks put in place a system where the branches and savings side could quickly separated from the lending side.

The problem there is that you cannot separate the lending from deposits. The deposits are used to (partially) fund the lending. If this were not the case, the bank would not be able to pay any interest on the deposits.

Time to get out if you haven't already done so:

B&B's shares are also trading well below their 55p rights price - they closed on Friday at 47.75p - despite speculation that they could attract a bidder. The Share Centre is urging private investors to sell even at these depressed levels as the market could get worse.

James Hamilton, banking analyst at Numis Secuirities said the market is 'almost certain to continue getting worse'. He believes all British banks could make losses next year as the housing gloom spreads to other industries.

Hope everyone got out in time...

    Treasury to nationalise B&B bank - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7640143.stm

BRADFORD & BINGLEY (BB.L) On Sep 26: 20.00 p Down 1.25 (5.88%). No news yet on what shareholders will get.

A further reduction in competition in the mortgage market, particularly to the type of lender B&B specialised in financing, cannot be good news for those who need house prices to stay near their current levels.

oooh ... all those shareholders who took out the rights issue must be so pi55ed off now - they'll end up with nothing, after pumping in £400million just last month.

The mortgages may be given to the nationalised Northern Rock to manage.

Does this mean the rates mortgagees pay will be going up to NR rates then?
