something supposedly from bt yahoo has been downloaded onto my system. I have tried to remove it, unsuccesfully, and it seems to be messing up my computer. It is called winfixer2005 and according to avast it contains a trojan horse win32. I have lost things like my email sign on and when my pc loads it tries to get me to connect via winfixer. It also starts some sort of scan, which I can stop.
I have tried system restore, uninstall and it just won't go. In fact I cannot restore my system to an earlier point at all.
What shall I do?
Has any one else got similar problems
Thanks for any ideas

you need to turn system restore off
download Microsoft anti spyware
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
and Ad-aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
boot into Safe mode and run them, and your virus software
how to boot to safe mode here:-
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406?OpenDocument&src=sec_doc_nam
then restart normally
you may need to run Ace Utilites from www.acelogix.com afterwards to tidy up the registry
if clean then turn system restore back on
that should do it, if not then go here for more techie help

I read on another forum that someone else who had winfixer2005 got rid of it by running the Microsoft Antispyware beta
here is the download link:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
Incidentally I run the same software automatically daily (overnight!) and it seems to keep my pc pretty clear....in conjunction with Zonealarm, AVG Anti-virus, Ad-aware and Spybot!
Hope this helps..(and works!)0 -
Ooooops...crossed with Browntoa - glad to see we said much the same0

I think the 'Sticky' at the beginning of this Techie Stuff forum may help you.
