I wouldn't risk your money for every Hbos share that you own you will get approx 0.60% of Lloydstsb shares if the deal goes through, it could still be renegotiated even further. I'd buy another companies shares well out of the banking sector, also there are no dividends payable at least in the short term.

I read they are trying to remove that no dividends clause as it does severely limit the share value.
I think a 5 year time frame is going to be earliest they can pay back 15 bn, that is a chunk of money even for hbos in the good times nevermind the bad though merging with lloyds will help them alot to save costs, i remember 1bn savings being mentioned

Llloyds need to pull out of the rescue of the pile of rubbish that is HBOS immediately. Otherwise hbos will drag lloyds down the toilet too

  • They are allready have dragged their share price down and wont be giving a dividend for a long time yet which is a reversal of their history.
Lloyds think its a good deal for the future, like I say 1bn savings from merging and thats added onto long term profits per year I guess

oh my poor 851 shares, held since the demutualisation *shakes head*

How many years is that, 10? Looks like another 10 is what you bought into by holding this long

The share price don't lie. HBOS should be allowed to go down the toilet on its own because that's where it belongs. Lloyds wouldn't need any money off the government if it hadn't been persuaded to rescue HBOS. I hope other shareholders join me and vote against this crazy deal.

  • The majority of share holders, pension funds etc, will have both shares afaik and so will want a merger to increase the value of both holdings
  • Got an extra 16 HBOS shares today in place of a dividend, yipee, so now I have 668 shares in total. Oh joy.

Peston says hbos may bounce. He is refering to their discount to the merger deal and Hbos/lloyds statement 0.83 swap will not change.

    127.40 / 225.25 = 0.566

'Correct' deal price would have them at 186.96. Free money or risky business?

Anyone got a schedule to the merger, when the votes are and shares converted, etc
If peston is right the discount should reduce in line with that proceeding, ie. hbos to outperform

Yes they rose and no I operate a purely ironic investment policy. They were not yet ex div then either

It seems the merger may once again receive positive affirmation however this time the ratio is now not far off what it should be

    85.7 / 150.2 = 0.571

what should reaasure shareholders in Lloyds and RBS in particular is that there is no blanket prohibition from the Treasury on the resumption of dvivdend payments (well except for the coming year

Might be the banks all rise or that was the reason they did so today even

    Thursday -
Still, Lloyds TSB (LYG) and Royal Bank of Scotland managed to outperform for a second day, up 4.9% and 0.8% respectively.
On Wednesday, reports speculated that selected banks may be able to pay dividends even after receiving government support.
