Can anyone explain why I should move from my standard mobile to one of these devices. Can that same someone say how much it would cost and would it replace the phone? Most of the sites I see on the web spend so much time on all the techie stuff that they don't tell you the simple things.

    very simply:

if you need to be constantly in touch with your email account and able to access / read / reply / create emails on the move (much as you can with SMS messages) then blackberry devices could be for you.

    complications / considerations exist:

    1. the above assumes we are talking about a personal email account. these can be used fairly easily providing the carrier you have the connection with supports the right email type (pop3, IMAP etc etc).

    2. work email is a different matter and will require additional software to be purchased (blackberry server to sit alongside the corporate email server) - there are also access and security questions to be dealt with there etc etc

    3. cost. while the blackberry device WILL replace your phone - ie: you can make and receive calls on it - you will most likely have to pay smartphone / xda prices for the handset itself and then factor in not only the normal tariff requirements but also the data element. you will need a goodly amount of data allowance to make proper use of the blackberry and that can push the monthly costs up significantly.

have a look at the vodafone site - specifically their business section - they have an overview of the blackberry and pricing plans.
