I'm thinking about staying at Travelodge Merthyr in August for a few days, any comments on the place, also I believe there's no onsite parking, any ideas on parking areas nearby, Alan.

Ive just looked at the map on the link you posted.

I used to live in merthyr for a short time until about 4 years ago.

Looks like its on the interchange from the A470 to merthyr coming in by rhyd y car leisure centre.

Theres a car park in the leisure centre, if my memory is correct there is a charge, not too much tho.

The railway station is not too far away, there is a car park there and Tescos is next to railway station but that has a time limit.

I always ring the hotel / lodge and ask where to park and check about their own car park. The staffs local knowledge is normally very good.

It has always saved me hours in a strange city / town driving round looking for a car park.

Its not open yet, its a new build. They are still developing the area around it also.
  • Travel Inn is in Pentrebach, and has parking IIRC.

Travel Lodge is in the town, and hasn't been finished yet. Parking in Merthyr is a nightmare - two main carparks, and both full to bursting

If the Travel Lodge is open in August, I'm sure there'll be parking. If not, you'll probably be allowed to park at Rhydycar leisure centre - although thats what is being demolished to make way for this shiny new development

Getting there one day at a time ;)
  • Merthyr Tydfil Travelodge is now open (has been for a couple of weeks) and I can confirm that it has ample parking. I work in the Welsh Assembly building overlooking said hotel.

I have already stayed there for three nights from 03-July and it was lovely. We were amongst the first guests to stay there and everything was new and clean - you know that new carpet smell!!! We were the first guests in our rooms.

The staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

Only two minor problems; the car park is adequate but the hotel is next to a building site with on-going works. The problem I had which is fully resolved now is that our first night was before the official opening and so Travelodge Central Reservations did not have the lodge phone number for me to phone ahead to advise of a 1:00am arrival; this is now available.

We wil certainly be staying there again in the future especially as it is so close to Castle Bingo where my wife won a £25.00 line.:T
