Thanks woodbine and others very much. I had just thought over the weekend that the F/allowance is with me until september so therefore my daughter is a dependant and i will be able to claim housing benefit until that time. My daughter has got a part time job and will hopefully be able to get the bursary. Many thanks

Space rider, don't know whereabouts you live but here in the east midlands we have a home service for seriously ill children where trained staff, usually highly trained specialist nurses/carers will come into your home to give you a break. It may not be for very long, an hour or two each day but it is a wonderful service. Social Services children and young people's department are the ones to ring. Hope it helps.
Its not possible to increase my hours with my department unfortunately. Its a shame because although I start work at 5.45am everyday I do love the job and the children I work with. Just applied to local cottage hospital for a full time position which will obviously give me more money but will make it difficult for me to look after my mum. She's 90 now and currently in nursing home and well looked after but panics when I don't get there. Juggling jobs and family is very hard isn't it. Hope you can get some help.

Elle83, I apologise if I read things wrong but I am very genuinly worried about my situation and how quick it is about to happen. I really have no problem with getting more hours if its possible but in such a short time? I must have been stupid to not have foreseen this happening because as I said before I thought a full time student meant just that and expected to have at least another year or so before I needed to work more hours and have been studying for more qualifications in anticipation.
I really must say though that apart from what I wrote no one knows or should assume to knowmine or anyone else's situation. I am quite close to retirement and I have a 90 year old mother to take into consideration. I voluntarilly give many hours a week to vulnerable families who are finding life very very difficult and I hope that I really make a difference. I also need a new hip but it seems i'm not quite old enough to get one yet but I don't want to claim for my disability as I prefer to work for as long as is possible. Who knows I may be able to get a new hip when I'm sixty then I can enjoy my "paid leisure time"

Could you not get some bank work, not necessarily in your specialist area?

Whilst you should be commended for your voluntary work, at times like this the phrase 'charity starts at home' needs to come into play. You need to prioritise your own income and wellbeing over that of others. That may sound selfish, but when you think about it, it is really just common sense x
    Gone ... or have I?

Bank work is not really an option for me although I have looked into it. I'm sure something will come along I've sent off many applications already.
I hear what you are saying about voluntary work and I know that I probably will have to stop doing it. I was really just trying to say that I don't sit on my !!!! all week long but get off it and do something. Ha. I am surrounded by neighbours who happilly do that and take all they can get for it and it does get up my nose a little when I'm leaving the house at some ungodly hour in the snow etc but hey live and let live I say.
Anyway I won't get up for work if I stay up any later.

    Hi Hun!

If you have a dodgy hip and are in pain, then you may qualify for DLA and continue to work. Many people do! It may ease up some of your financial burden ATM.

You may benefit attending the job centre and asking a consultant there what options are available and what help could be offered:confused:

You seem like a lovely person and I wish you well with whatever you choose to do.

How lovely of you to send such a nice reply. Must admit I was beginning to wonder if i'd done the right thing asking for help on this forum, I mean you lay yourself bare for anyone to have a go and I don't think thats what this forum is about.

    Many thanks

Hi Yvonne, I`m in the East Midlands and I have used the service. Got a precious 1 hour per week but it was great, and when I was able I saved it up and had 4 hours a month. That was a joy! When I had to go back to work they couldn`t help as it isn`t meant to help me to work so she went to a special needs nursery.

Hi Sjaypink, I guess in reality I shouldn`t be any worse off, but I still have the bills to pay and although I save a bit on food and electricity it still doesn`t amount to what I used to get when I got tax credits for her. Only way I will be better off is when the children leave home and I can downsize with no room for them to move back!

Yvonne, I`ve PM you as my company is taking on staff and they are flexible with the hours. We have lots of uni students!
