Celebrate Grandparents day together - Grandparents travel with us for £10 and grandchildren for just £1!
To celebrate Grandparents Day, First Great Western and First Great Western Link are encouraging families to get out and explore by train with a special offer on the weekend of 24th - 25th September.
Grandparents travel with us for just £10!
On 24th and 25th of September, Grandparents can travel anywhere on First Great Western and First Great Western Link train services for £10 return.
Accompanying grandchildren aged 15 and under can travel for £1 return, and children aged 5 and under can travel for free. Additional adults can also join the party for the rate of £10 return.
Whether you are visiting friends and family or seeing the sights there are loads of interesting places to visit and things to do in our region. From South Wales and its vibrant capital Cardiff, picturesque fishing ports in Cornwall, the beautiful coastline of the Devon Riviera, bustling Bristol, the Georgian city of Bath, the historic market town of Henley-on-Thames, dreaming spires of Oxford, through to London and it's top attractions.

Terms and Conditions
1. This promotional offer is made by First Great Western and First Great Western Link.
2. All travel is on First Great Western and First Great Western Link trains only in Standard accommodation. Weekend First is valid in conjunction with this offer but must be purchased on-train and is subject to availability.
3. The offer is valid for travel anytime on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September 2005 only. All travel must be completed by 0200 on 26th September 2005.
4. All bookings must be made by the participants via a ticket office within the First Great Western or First Great Western Link region. Bookings must be made by 1800 at least 1 day in advance of the day you wish to travel.
5. Seats on High Speed Trains (HSTs) and Adelante services allocated to this promotion are limited and subject to availability. Reservations are compulsory on reservable trains (HST and Adelante services) and free of charge for both outward and return journeys. You must travel on the services you are reserved on (where available). If you travel on any service other than the service you are reserved on you will be subject to the appropriate excess charge for the journey being made.
6. Breaks in journey cannot be made.
7. No Railcard, child or other discounts are available on these fares. The promotional offers must be accepted as described. There is no cash alternative.
8. First Great Western and First Great Western Link's normal refund policy applies.
9. The offer is not valid on Sleeper, RailAir, coach or ferry link services.
10. Some weekend services may be affected by engineering works, please enquire when booking. You are also advised to check exact timings of your train the day before you travel.

but beware I got caught out.BarGin wrote:I tried to book this yesterday so I could visit my grandchildren in Devon for a day.
I drove 25 miles to a First Great Western Station only to be told by the booking office clerk that he knew nothing of the offer and suggested I return today when his boss would be in!
I made the same 50 mile round trip today only to be told that there must be a minimum of 2 passengers!
The terms and conditions on the website make no mention of this as far as I can see and in my opinion it is a ridiculous condition anyway as a high proportion of grandparents must be single or widowed!
I think I'll stick to the car in future.
