  • I think this is for Grandparents only, unless I've got the wrong link - although I would like to see how they want you to prove it! Bringing along a 'family tree' of birth certificates is maybe asking a little too much!!

Grandparents travel with us for just £10!

On 24th and 25th of September, Grandparents can travel anywhere on First Great Western and First Great Western Link train services for £10 return.
Accompanying grandchildren aged 15 and under can travel for £1 return, and children aged 5 and under can travel for free. Additional adults can also join the party for the rate of £10 return.

you have to book in person:

"All bookings must be made at a ticket office within the First Great Western and First Great Western Link region. Bookings must be made no later than 1800 at least 1 day in advance of the day you wish to travel. Please also print and take the completed attached form to the ticket office when you make your booking."

so i'm not sure if you could just book 'additional' adult tickets without first purchasing the grandparent ones.

    great for grandparents tho!
  • As long as their is 2adults or 1 adult and 1 child that is the only qualifing need - no max. no of travellers, but bear in mind services to West Country/South Wales will be booked up quicker than say to Worcester for example.

that sounds good but is there somewhere on their site that states this as i don't want to turn up to try and book and get laughed at :)

I tried to book this yesterday so I could visit my grandchildren in Devon for a day.

I drove 25 miles to a First Great Western Station only to be told by the booking office clerk that he knew nothing of the offer and suggested I return today when his boss would be in!

I made the same 50 mile round trip today only to be told that there must be a minimum of 2 passengers!

The terms and conditions on the website make no mention of this as far as I can see and in my opinion it is a ridiculous condition anyway as a high proportion of grandparents must be single or widowed!

I think I'll stick to the car in future.
