How odd. I only opened a premier current account with A&L because I wanted to have the regular saver. Only put in £500 per month, half of which went to the RS - but, without my asking, they offered me (and I accepted) a free overdraft facility for a year of £1,400.

One of the VERY few lucky ones:rolleyes:

Abbey may not be the best bank but A&L have one branch 10 miles from me!
I would rather cut a little service back and have a branch local:D

I have a Premier Direct account with A&L, I hold a Visa debit and cheque book but no C/G card, I also got a £50 after submitting an online request, they say after 4 - 6 months they will review it.

Your Debit card is your c/g card. Look on the back - there will be a hologram with either a 50 or 100 in it (£50 or £100 c/g).

No-one uses cheques these days anyway, so it's immaterial really.

Some debit cards indeed are NOT cg cards. My bf's HSBC Maestro had no cheque guarantee facility and stated on it 'This is not a cheque guarantee card' so not all debit cards are CG cards :)

There's a (high) chance that banks are phasing out cheque guarantee cards. HSBC for instance rarely issue them to new customers. I've been with them for 5 years but recently upgraded my account and they gave me a plain Maestro Card without c/g, I absolutely could not care less as I've never and will never use cheque on high street.

But it is the other facility which is fixed in a std Visa or Meastro card and that is 100% auth for every transaction, the floor limit feature is set to 0 so if for example you go to use the card at a train station or want to pay for your ticket on the train then you are stuffed. The C/G type allow offline payment.
