mmmm...single malts...more of a necessity than luxury i would say!!!:D
tried a 30 year old glenrothe that was bottled in 1970 a couple of years ago...would love to try to source a bottle but have a sneaking suspicion that would need another mortgage to afford it !!:rotfl: Perhaps when i am mf i will push the boat out and find some....;)0 -
Ohhhh whisky... yummy. Have you tried Bruichladdich? :heartpuls Its a very yummy Islay malt which has a light peaty taste... They also have loads of different casked whiskeys - for example aged in maderia casks  The distillery is beautiful too and just what we needed after a day of cycling around Islay a few years ago
Hmmmmm I wonder if my budget will stretch to a bottle for Xmas...
 :rolleyes:Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

Frazzmunch, you've a very good point there; need to start a list of "nice" things in addition to the funding dd will need....
SMF2, if I hit MFW date in 2010, can I still post here???0 -

SMF2 - I used to like you, but now you've gone all ageist on me!!
Pensions "boring" - you sound like someone in their twenties:D:D:D
I had thought to start a board on reckless spend thrift ways once you are MF but realise I've missed the chance there, as it will be full of investment bankers and government ministers.....
Maybe I'll just change this diary to one on what to do when you're MF, but have a child needing support until they're 25....
Guess I'll put back the order date on the Lambo though for now0 -
Maybe you could start making a list of all of the fabulous things you want...would that be something to look forward to or a bit depressing...? It's hard to know!!!
I thnk I'll have an Aston Martin...I've always fancied myself as a Bond Girl...:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:MBNA - [STRIKE]£7068.60 [/STRIKE] £7060.00 Egg - 1422.35 A&L - [STRIKE]£249.32[/STRIKE] £215.00Loan - £13279.50 :rolleyes:0 -

LOL :rotfl::rotfl: Maybe you could just leave a nominal amount unpaid then strictly speaking you won't be MF and then the mods won't kick you out...:rotfl:0 -

Well occasionally timing works well. Wife's car service etc whilst undertaken on 17 Oct was not billed until 20 Oct, so missing the bill being generated so it won't need to be paid until about 12 December. Also my £50 of whiskey did the same. So £525 offsetting mortgage for about 7 weeks, and all for nothing...
Thanks to this, the credit card bill for the month was less than £1000 which is amazing especially as dd's new bike was on it too! Remember, everything is purchased on the card so it remains in current a/c offsetting before being paid in full.
I guess I could look carefully at billing dates and be smarter on some large purchases to maximse the offset benefit, but these are all items we fund in full, so the actual impact is very small although the psychological boost is great when it works in your favour!
Another bit of good news is that the interest charged on the mortgage dropped 18.8% this month, (of course % can be deceptive, so actually it was done to £43 from £53). This wasn't due to an interest rate change, just a bit more cash sat offsetting I think. All the same it was nice to see.
So, I have had to increase OP again; this month it was the usual OP plus the interest charged of £43 but total was less than £500 (sorry to you folks with much higher amounts) hence I had to add another £10 to make the total payment £503 which is the target I have in the plan to be 100% offset next year. This sum is about 44.7% of the portion we try to save each month to account for S&S ISA long term investments (at least I hope they are investments one day!) and interim savings for offset (from which holiday etc is paid).
Still not yet booked holiday; do we, don't we?0
