  • Did you have Excel open then try opening the sheet via file>open, or just open it direct from the file manager?

I tried both, several times but excel still kept shutting down...
At present we enter the data for each receipt; groceries for us are maybe 2, sometimes 3 receipts in a week, so not a massive task. The date function automatically calculates weekly and monthly spends based on the dates you use.

What happens when you run out of rows? Start all over again? Do you do this anyway on a regular basis, e.g. every year?
These are taken from the online accounts data. I do it often (far too often?) each month, usually as current account changes.

Presumably, the only place that needs updating with this is the outgoings sheet? Or do you update the mortgage/savings sheets often as well
  • Hi Stuart,

Thanks for your spreadsheet. I finally got into my e-mail and both versions opened fine. Hopefully I will get the hang of it when I have figures to enter.

Thanks for letting me know it is ok; obviously some issues for a very few others inc new versions of Office2008 (maybe the new MS file format and defaults)

I hope you can follow the sheet OK. Good luck

I've yet to face this with 500 rows but for petrol I just inserted more rows, formulae will correct in OpenOffice straight away

I do update those sheets as and when I feel like it, but for mortgage there's the main payment (inc OP) then the interest charged later and corresponding extra payment in to cover it, so twice a month. Savings once or twice as account changes.

Current account etc, yes, in outgoings sheet only as and when I check which is probably 4 times a week aligned with entering shopping bill, or petrol etc.

  • Stuart not sure if its just me, but having problems getting the fuel sheet to produce any figures. I though initially it would need a few weeks/months worth of data in to show an results, but I have 12 rows with data from May and I'm still not getting any figures.
Would it be possible for you to send it through to me again as its possible I have managed to alter a cell and not realised, I can't find the original version you sent (its probably on my old work laptop).

    Thanks

If you overtyped in the Outgoings sheet that could be the problem. Cell B21 should contain =SUM('Car Costs'.C108+49)

This has highlighted my "error" in leaving some items in the sheet to form the blank version; wife uses about £49 per month, whereas my fuel consumption is higher and the one derived from the sheet for petrol.... ooops, but at least it's a conservative error!

    I'll resend the sheet anyway
