You pay your money you make your choice!

    Both have pros and cons.

Best a scooter will get is probably 90mpg, a frugal modern car car approach 70 and keep you warm and dry and alive.

Where did you get them figures from? Pluck them out of the air?

Powered two wheelers are addictive. I bought a 125 scooter in 2001 for a 20 mile commute into Bristol. Bikes/scooters can use bus lanes in Bristol & Bath and can park for free. Average commute in the car was around 50 minutes, on the bike it was closer to 30 - with a much smaller variation in time as the car could sometimes take 90 minutes for that short distance. Within 6 months I passed my test and bought a 650cc bike then 5 months later went for an 1150cc bike. However, for sheer convenience a scooter is unbeatable and most offer pretty good weather protection.

I love two wheelers so much that I don't own a car - although I do now have a three wheeler having fitted a sidecar to one of my bikes.

I've seen claims of up to 150mpg on some scooters/small bikes

Just like with other vehicles though, not sure what that translates to in the real world

It isn't just about the money, through built up areas they tend to be faster and a lot more fun

Each to their own. You might get a bit wet on 2 wheels but I know people who drive say 50miles in their heated/dry car then go hill walking in the p1ssin rain! :p

No my friend I did not.

I was a biker for more years than you have probably lived. Anything from a 90cc honda to 750 superbikes.
Worst was sub 30mpg for a suzuki 250.
Best I ever had, and I had 2, was an MZ 150 which would just do 100mpg.

I have a renault megane diesel ,estate which won't do less than 60mpg, wife has a clio diesel that regularly betters 70mpg.

I saw a 3-wheeled one once. And you wouldn't really notice. The back "bulge" of the scooter had 2 wheels quite close together. That'd be good.

I am short and would have trouble reaching the ground either side of that foot platform (had trouble on a normal moped). So it'd be good to have a discrete 3-wheeler where I didn't have to put my foot down.

Funnily enough some really funky scooters have been launched recently with 3 wheels e.g. The Piaggio MP3 - crap name but a hoot to ride - http://www.mp3.piaggio.com/index_eng.html
