Fuel Cards?

With the rising fuel costs situation at the moment, I have been looking at getting a fuel card. They appear to have many benefits but obviously the main one being a set price across the country on fuel when you purchase fuel from the network. http://www.cscgroup.org.uk look to have a good one that can be used at Somerfield and Morrisons so you know there will always be a network forecourt for you to use. Has anyone else got one and what do they think of them?

I think it would be much better to focus on getting the cheapest price in your area. The very nature of a fuel card is it will be an average price and hence more expensive than you should be able to achieve.
Have a look at this site should be able to help you:-

One other thing if there is no difference or say only 1p avoid supermarket petrol if its your car and plan on keeping it for a while.0 -

Sorry dont know about fuel cards although my guess is you would be better off without it.
I see the old chestnut about supermarket fuel is here again, All fuel stations get their fuel from the same tanks, yes they all add different things but what makes the leading brands additives better?0 -

There is a sticky on here about contaminated petrol but if all else is equal I will buy Shell or BP before going to the supermarket. I will aslo pay 1p more after that well............I'm not that proud.0 -
Fuel cards aren't all that. They don't change the prices as regularly as a petrol station so when prices dip, you don't benefit from it unless they remain lower for a few weeks.0

The main use for fuel cards, is for more accurate accounting, for busnises.
They know who's spending how much on what (diesel as well as Mars bars) & which vehicle, within a company fleet.
The Moneysaving bit isn't really an issue.
Better off with a Shell credit card, (3% off Shell purchases) in conjunction with the Shell Drivers Club loyalty card (1p or so off a litre). Plus extra points/offers occassionally.
Find a Shell site near a supermarket & they'll be price matching each other, so you get better fuel & best price!!

Fuel cards can, at best, match supermarket prices
Since I get paid in cash, it's easier for me to pay for fuel by cash anyway0 -
Personally I get all my fuel from Asda, plus have one of their CC's which gives you 2p off per litre then have a DD to pay it off in full each month. Only saves a £1 on a 50 Litre fill up but every little helpsCheers

I use my AMEX Platinum for fuel just now - effectively giving me 5% off the fuel price. But after the 3 month intro deal I plan to do what vansboy suggested and get the Citi/Shell Credit Card. Hopefully it'll be on Quidco by then...#145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET

The Shell Card only gives 3% at Shell owned garages. Shell concessions and Shell @ Sainsbury's only gets you 1%Ethical moneysaver0 -

That's that plan potentially scuppered then.
I'll have to find out if my local Shells are owned by Shell or someone else!#145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET
